Let me start by saying, I understand that there are a ton of colleges in the United States and I understand why you might have trouble deciding where you want to go. But before I started attending my college, I was considering going to a community college near home. I am being 100% honest when I say I am SUPER glad I did not do that! The following are a few reasons why I suggest attending Austin Peay State University:
1. Small, But Close Community
Austin Peay is a small 4-year university, but being small makes the community very close. Although, it may seem like high school sometimes because you see people you know all over campus. I find this comforting at times. I love recognizing people, getting to know them, and eventually becoming friends. Also, because campus is not that big, you don't have a super far walk and you can get to your classes in ten minutes or less. Not to mention, a lot of your classes are a pretty good size, so you can go to class, but also have that relationship with your professors, so they actually know who you are.
2. Opportunities
You may think that because we are small there are not as many groups or organizations to get involved in on campus, but it's completely the opposite. If anything it gives you the opportunity to become a leader or president of those groups/organizations because there are less people. There are honor societies, Greek organizations, sports, and multiple other organizations to get involved in that will benefit you in the future.
3. Housing
I may be a bit bias because I am a resident assistant on campus, but the living areas on campus are pretty great. I am a sophomore and I have loved everywhere I have lived so far! The university continues to make the living areas better and better every year and work on improving everyone's living experience.
4. Affordable
Austin Peay State University is pretty affordable for a 4-year university. I was not sure if I was going to attend a 4-year college and now I'm so glad I was able to.
5. Friends
If I would have gone to a community college and not lived on a campus, I don't think I would have made as many friends I have. College is a great time to get out there and meet people you never thought you would. You also meet people you never thought you would. I am friends with a variety of people and I love that!
I know these are only a few reasons why you should attend APSU, but if you have any questions about the university I can direct you to someone for more information. Plus, where else can you go where you get to say, "LET'S GO PEAY". You won't be sorry to say you graduated from Austin Peay State University!
