As the semester comes to a close, grade reports start rolling in. You might've gotten the grades you wanted, but you might've not gotten the grades you wanted. Regardless of the result, the struggle is real. So, I'm here to tell you five reasons, why it's OK to fail at college sometimes.
1. Your grades don't define you
Yeah, it's an overused cliche, but nevertheless, it's true. Letters on a piece of paper don't define your self worth or who you are as a person. It doesn't define your intentions, your struggles, your particular situation, it is just that, a piece of paper. Your mental health is worth more.
2. It's inevitable to fail
Failing is a fundamental part of a college students' life, it's inevitable. Whether it's failing a class or just an exam, it's as if the college experience requires you to fail at least once. Nonetheless, even though failing is inevitable, it's important to not become a victim. As fashion icon Tyra Banks one said, "It's important to not become the victim, one has to learn from their situation, and grow." So, even though you didn't do so great this year, just see where it went wrong and try to fix it.
3. Failing makes you stronger
Failing is the ultimate motivation, it's true. It separates the weak from the prevalent. When people fail, some people give up and don't try again, but some people, the prevalent people, gain strength and a willingness to succeed. If you fail, don't give up, think that if you can get through your present failure, you can achieve anything. That positive mindset will make you, without a doubt, a stronger person.
4. Failure expands your horizons
When you fail, you tend to realize that the current situation you're in is not the correct one, and consequently makes you consider other choices. Those other choices expand your horizons and make you think about what is that really interests you. In other terns, failing can be "mind-blowing".
5. Failure makes success and even better feeling
There's nothing like the sweet sense of success after hard work. If you have previously failed before, you will truly appreciate accomplishing whatever it is you were doing. Having gone through failure will provide you a great sense of satisfaction because you'll realize that even though, the struggle was real, it was worth it.
Failing college is OK sometimes. As long as you grow from your experiences and don't victimize yourself, you will be alright. Remember, that it's all a learning experience, and that your mental health is worth more than a piece of paper.
