I rarely jump at the opportunity to leave TCU, and the only time I've gone home since the semester started was during fall break. This is my favorite place to be, and my iPhone now automatically calls my dorm room "home," so I know it's real. I think I speak for most of the student body when I say I could not be more excited to make the trip back to my hometown. Here's why:
1. Seeing my family again:
The weekly FaceTime calls just aren't cutting it anymore. You don't realize how awesome your relatives are and how much you'll miss them until you're miles and miles away from them, so this homecoming is coming just in time.
2. Hanging out with high school friends:
You most likely don't go to school with many of the people you grew up with, and while the independence is great, Thanksgiving Break is the perfect time to reunite and update each other on all your college adventures.
3. A bed bigger than Twin XL:
I'm not complaining about my lofted bed with its comfy memory foam pad, but I really miss my bed at home. I forgot what it's like to spread out as much as I want and roll around in my sleep without falling out onto the floor.
4. An actual bathtub:
Shoutout to all the "basic" girls that Snapchat their bath bombs exploding in the tub. For at least a couple of days, you can kiss community showers goodbye. Although I rarely take baths, I didn't know how much I took bathtubs for granted until I had no option but to stand up in a tiny, tiled stall.
5. Thanksgiving Dinner, duh:
I can't express my yearning for turkey, mashed potatoes, my mom's famous apple crisp pie, and really, just homecooked food in general. The BLUU is super cool, don't get me wrong, but I can't wait to sit at the table with my family and eat homemade food that I didn't have to wait in a buffet line for.
