Alright y’all, buckle your seat belts because I am about to explain to you why being a Hufflepuff is probably one of the greatest honors a person can have.
We are the house of patience, loyalty and hard work -- that in and of itself should make you want to bleed black and yellow forever. We Hufflepuffs regularly get a bad rep for being “beige," “lazy," “boring," or any other number of atrociously unfounded labels.
And you know how we respond to those ill-informed haters? With love. Lots and lots of love.
The truth about being a Hufflepuff has been best summarized by Eddie Redmanye, star of the new "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" movie. This movie, and the four others that will follow it, are ushering in the Hufflepuff Era. This is our time to prove who we are.
Here are a few reasons why everyone should adore -- if not want to be -- Hufflepuffs.
1. We are the only house that is known for and defined by our kindness.
In the "Order of the Phoenix," the Sorting Hat gave us an interesting look into how sorting happens and it said:
Said Slytherin, “We’ll teach just those, whose ancestry’s purest.”
Said Ravenclaw, “We’ll teach those whose, intelligence is surest.”
Said Gryffindor, “We’ll teach all those, with brave deeds to their name.”
Said Hufflepuff, “I’ll teach the lot, and treat them just the same.”
There is a very basic requirement to be a Hufflepuff, just be a decent person. That’s it. Love others more than you love yourself and show it through your actions. That's a beautiful thought. Just think about how different elections would be if candidates were Hufflepuffs. Kind, inclusive candidates mean no mean ads on the TV all day long, just saying.
2. Our common room is right next to the kitchen.
We all know those other houses get hungry, but who has the access to the food? We do. So if you Ravenclaws want your all-nighter coffees and pastries you should be nice to us. Gryffindors can’t go on their crazy adventures on an empty stomach. And Slytherins, well, a cookie might just be what they need.
3. We are super open-minded and always try to do the right thing.
One might say that we are the “miscellaneous” house when in reality we just care about all people. J.K. Rowling said almost all Hufflepuffs stayed during the Battle of Hogwarts, that’s the definition of caring y’all. Also, if you ever find yourself in trouble, you can count on your Hufflepuff friend to bail you out, even if it’s inconvenient for them.
4. We have some of the coolest alumni.
Newt Scamander. Nymphadora Tonks. Cedric Diggory.
Point made.
5. We are genuine and that's a breath of fresh air.
We are the house that exudes joy. We will pick our friends up whenever they are down and will be there for them unconditionally. We may not be the boldest house or the wittiest, but we are the house of decency, loyalty and trust. If there is anything one can say about Hufflepuffs, it’s that we love wholeheartedly, which in the grand picture of Hogwarts houses, is a rare occurrence. Hufflepuffs are the best y’all and we won’t even boast about it.
