For over fifteen years I've belonged to the beloved part of Massachusetts where everything is unique and incredible, also know as Western Massachusetts. The small, close community has brought myself and many others so much joy throughout the years. Here are five reasons why living in the hill towns are the best.
1. The community
The hill towns have such a well rounded community; everyone knows each other and their family. We all got each other's backs. If you break down on the side of the road, no need to call triple A, Your local gas station owner will willingly come out and solve all your car trouble. Everywhere you go you are more than likely to see an old friend, teammate, or high school teacher! Everyone has your back. It's honestly the most special part about the hill towns.
2. The scenery
There's nothing like driving down a winding road with the windows down and having the crisp fall air hit your skin just right, all of the leaves are golden yellow and a deep red; it's truly extraordinary. Tourist come rushing down to see how amazing our county is and how beautiful the scenery is in the fall. In the summer, everything is peaceful with fresh air and we all head to the Becket quarry for a swim and relaxation. The scenery to me is nothing else I have ever seen.
3. Where it's located
I grew up in a small town called Blandford. We had no stop light or gas station. Simply just your old typical town with only a church, post office, elementary school, general store and fire station. Old fashion I would say, but in only 15 short minutes you would arrive in the city of Westfield with a much more complex variety of restaurants and stores. Our location is something we all appreciate because we are far out from everyone and have space but in less than 20 minutes we can be in the city. We are also only an hour and a half away from Boston and two and a half hours away from New York City. Quite Incredible I must say!
4. The parties
It's a small town throw down LITERALLY. Us hill town folks can sure throw one heck of a good party! Friday nights for sure never disappoint and there is always something going on during the weekends. We all gather around after a stressful work or school day and just have a good time and meet with old and new friends.
5. The local fairs
The local fairs are what keep us entertained throughout the summer. Every small town has their own local fair and each one is unique in its own way which makes it enjoyable each time. My favorite part is sitting watching the truck pulls with my best fiends and just acting crazy.
