Yes, Valentine's Day may be over, but that weekend was explosive for movies. We had "The Choice," by Nicholas Sparks, and "How to be Single," starring Dakota Johnson and Rebel Wilson. But I want to talk about a completely different "romantic" movie. Also, what I mean by "romantic" is an R-rated action movie stuffed with violence, humor and good, old-fashioned Fourth Wall breaking. So I'm giving you five reasons why you should see "Deadpool."
1. The publicity is great.
This is just one of the many advertisements that was published during the Christmas season, and you can tell with that one sentence, it's a movie like no other. Specifically, an R-rated movie. Want more? Some posters and billboards make "Deadpool" look like a romantic comedy, which would be the perfect date movie. Additionally, Deadpool appeared on a television spot on "The Bachelor," calling the film “a love story.”
2. Ryan Reynolds
I should have put this as the No. 1 reason, but hey, second is the best, right? We've seen Reynolds star in a bunch of great romantic movies like "Just Friends" and "Definitely, Maybe," but his track record for other Marvel movies did not pan out so well. But even with that said, Reynolds was a huge advocate to get Deadpool his own movie regardless of the setbacks set in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." Then again, maybe it's just his genetics that make this even more worthwhile to see.
3. Love is Love
I found an interesting little bit about this section. "Deadpool has never been one to conform. In the comics, Deadpool is pansexual, meaning that he is attracted to all genders and sexual identities. Gender doesn’t matter to Deadpool — for him, love is love (and lust is lust)."
While his main squeeze in the first "Deadpool" movie is a woman, the producers, writers and stars have said that the cinematic Deadpool is pansexual and that was taken into account in the production of the film. Ryan Reynolds even went as far to say that he hopes that Deadpool has a boyfriend in the future. If that isn’t romantic, then what is?
*insert happy tears*
4. Great reviews
It's no surprise that "Deadpool" received many postive reviews, even getting an 84 percent Certified Fresh rating off of Rotten Tomatoes, and that's saying something. Also, Betty White had some kind words to say about Mr. Pool, going as far in giving the movie "four Golden Girls." You go, Betty White.
5. The violence is intense.
I want to point something out: This is not a movie for young children. There's a reason why it's R-rated, and the gore is one of the main factors. I'm not trying to deter you from this. If anything, the violence adds to it. It makes the movie so much better — and funnier, I might add.
So when you get the time, go grab a movie ticket, some expensive popcorn and an overpriced soda — I promise you won't be disappointed
