With finals winding down, I am excited about the idea of going home for more than a few days and get to enjoy all that is Hillsborough, NJ. While it isn't a big city with tons of amenities, Hillsborough is home and even the little things mean a lot. So here are five reasons why I can't wait to head to my hometown for the summer:

1. My Friends

There is nothing like spending time with people who have known you your whole life. The memories you share are irreplaceable and even though you have spent a majority of this year away from each other, you can still pick up right where you left off. Except now, they have more crazy stories to share with you!

2. My Family

The hardest part about going to college was leaving my family. It will be nice to enjoy their company and be able to eat family dinners together again. Getting back into a routine with my family will give me a sense of comfort.

3. The Food

While there are definitely more options in college, it really can't be described as quality. Nothing compares to Catered Affair, Culinary Creations, Jumbo Palace, Bagel Bistro, Lenny's Pizza, Just Subs or the other various frozen yogurt places around town. This combined with some home cooked meals makes me way more excited than I should be... but then again I've been eating the same thing for the past few months.

4. Duke's Farm and the Sourland Mountains

These two destinations allow for an escape when you do not want to sit inside any more. I love biking through Duke's Farm, checking out all the history it has to offer and the beautiful greenhouse. The Sourland Mountains are the perfect spot for a hike, with a variety of trails and rock formations to spend your afternoons exploring.

5. Driving

One of the worst parts of college is not having my car, essentially giving up all my freedom in terms of going places whenever I want. While Uber has been great, I honestly cannot wait to drive anywhere and everywhere without worrying about having awkward conversations with my driver. Gaining this freedom back will slightly make up for all the freedom I am losing my coming back home.

College has been amazing, but nothing compares to my hometown. It is where I have lived a majority of my life and will always be home. Hillsborough, NJ has so many amazing features that I cannot wait to enjoy for the next three months but I know when it is over, I'll be ready to get back to school.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
