It's 2:30 a.m. on a Saturday night and you are absolutely starving. The growls in your stomach are hungering for a thick, creamy slice of Oreo cheesecake. While the dining hall is open 24 hours now, you know for sure that they will not have what you want. Lucky for you, as a Mount Saint Mary College student, a delicious haven of snacks, desserts and everything in between is just a quick car or taxi ride away.

So what is this amazing place?

I'm talking about the Alexis Diner of course!

If you are a freshman who just arrived at the Mount, someone who is visiting or you just have never gone before, here are five reasons why the Alexis Diner is the best place on Earth:

1. They are open 24 hours.

Just like the dining hall, the Alexis Diner is open 24 hours! However, the Alexis Diner has an answer for every single one of your late night cravings. Feeling like a chocolate milkshake? You got it. Just a side of mashed potatoes? They have that too!

2. They can make a gourmet meal out of anything.

One of Alexis Diner's amazing talents is they can make just a simple grilled cheese sandwich taste like heaven. While you might expect mediocre quality since it is only a diner, they make their customers feel as if they are in a five star restaurant.

3. The staff is quick, friendly and hilarious.

Whether it be at 10 a.m. on a Sunday or 2 a.m. on a Wednesday, you will never find yourself waiting more than a max of 10 minutes. Once you are seated, you are always welcomed by the waiting staff and I always find myself having brief little conversations with them when they bring out my food. Never have I been dissatisfied with my service there and I have been to Alexis Diner dozens of times throughout my years at Mount Saint Mary.

4. They accept Mount Money!

When you are getting notifications from your bank account letting you know you have gone under a certain limit, have no fear! You can always go to Alexis Diner and pay with any Mount Money you have on your card.

5. They are reasonably priced.

While the Newburgh waterfront restaurants are also a very tasty option, Alexis Diner is built for the average college student on a budget. You can get yourself a nice meal and have leftovers for the next day for under $15!

As I sit and reflect back on my three years so far here at Mount Saint Mary College, I can say one thing for sure: Alexis Diner has a little slice of my heart.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
