Traveling is one of those things that my generation today can't seem to get enough of. It's a big, driving force in my marriage because my husband and I have so many places we want to visit.
We were blessed enough to travel to Hawaii for our honeymoon. It was better than the pictures I had seen and seemed surreal every moment we spent there. Of course, we plan to go back, but we also have other adventures planned, too.
On a recent trip out west, during the plane ride, I began to think of how much I love to travel and even more than that, how much I love to fly. I began to create an argument for flying - why you should fly.
5) Choosing your destination
The great thing about traveling today is that there are so many resources to chose from. From Airbnb to Frontier (cheaper flights), you can pretty much pick somewhere you want to go and make it happen. Trust me, if I could book a vacation for my husband and me to Hawaii and actually come back not broke, you can go anywhere.
I started a list of all the places I want to travel. Really, I sat down and created my "must go's." Of course, I would jump at the chance to anywhere that isn't necessarily on that list, but I want to make sure to prioritize the places I really want to visit.
4) Packing a suitcase
I don't know about you, but whenever I go on vacation and I drive instead of fly, I usually throw my stuff in a duffel bag. To me, suitcases are reserved for flying and there is something magical about them. Rolling it through the airport gives you a sort of arrogance like, "Yeah, I'm a seasoned traveler, too."
Whenever I get to fly somewhere, I am always so excited about packing the suitcase. You have to rearrange it just right and make sure it doesn't weigh over 50 pounds or whatever the weight may be. Maybe I'm just crazy, but there is something about suitcases that really pumps you up for your trip.
3) The Airport
Next to rolling your suitcase through the airport and acting like you own the place, it is one of my favorite places to be. Depending on if someone drops you off or you self-park, once you enter those doors of the airport, your adrenaline soars. When you check your bag and set off to security, you notice all of the people going in different directions with different destinations. It's really neat to be a part of the hustle and bustle.
Another fun challenge is finding your gate, that is if you left more than 15 minutes before your flight boards. Sitting in an airport knowing you are one of the lucky people boarding a flight makes you feel on top of the world.
2) The Flight
Once you have gone through these first three steps, you find yourself boarding the plane. No matter how long your flight is, 2, 6, or 10 hours, that time spent on that airplane is yours. You can read, write, study, sleep, watch movies, play games, talk, etc. The list goes on. It is "you" time. It is an uninterrupted time where you can turn your phone to airplane mode, sit back, and relax.
1) You will never see the world in the same way
Once you view the earth from 40,000 feet in the air, everything you see is somehow more special. One of my favorite things to do while flying is to listen to music and stare out the window. It doesn't matter if you're flying at night or during the day, the view is absolutely breathtaking.
You begin to think about things differently and view life in a new way. There you are, flying above the earth like a bird, able to see things not everyone gets to see. When you fly and experience that kind of view, it changes the way you think about not only yourself but the world, too.
