Follow these easy tips to clean up your social media account before entering 'the real world'.
Some of these tips may seem obvious, however many of them still need to be applied to most collegiate accounts. A lot of these problems can be avoided by creating professional social media accounts, however the content from personal accounts are still accessible on the internet.
1. Change your profile picture - Having a profile picture that is
clean-cut
and just has you in it gives anyone looking at your profile a
great first impression. Put your best foot forward!
2. Take down pictures that could put you in a negative light - Pictures that could hold implication of underage drinking, drugs, hardcore partying or anything of that nature should be removed from your profiles. Yes, this type of activity is expected of college students, but the possibility of it looking as if you engage in illegal activities is best not shared on the internet.
3. Think before you post - Take a close look at your recent activity on your social media accounts and and get rid of posts that could poorly represent who you are. Post such as bashes on authority figures, negative comments about school or work or posts with profanities should be removed.
4. Promote yourself well - If you have more than one form of social media that you use, provide easy access to the other accounts on an easy access list on each of your profiles. Especially if you have professional accounts that you want to be seen rather than private, personal accounts.
5. Monitor your privacy - On most social media sites you can choose what content is open to the public and what is shared with people who are your friends or followers. This will make it a lot easier to keep your personal life private.
