We all have that one friend who doesn't talk much. That friend who sits back, watches, and only chimes in with a sarcastic, though witty, comment. And while it may seem these friends aren't actively participating or interested in the group conversation, this is typically not the case. This type of people are usually just observing and listening to what everyone has to say. But don't think it's all sunshine and rainbows for your quiet friend. Sometimes it's exhausting to listen to the intense opinions of others in the group; other times, it takes everything in them not to burst out into song when you make a comment about their favorite musical. And let's not forget the many comments and questions that come their way because they don't add but one sentence to the chat every twenty minutes.
1. "Are you even listening?"
Of course, this could be said to anyone, but your quiet friend has definitely heard this question on more than one occasion. Have no fear, your friend is more than likely listening more intently than someone who interjects at times.
2. "Do you have anything to add?"
This question can get really annoying really fast. If your friend has something to add that he/she finds important, have no doubt he/she will say it. Sometimes, your friend may need a slight nudge to join in, but this is not the nudge they need. This question can often seem snobby and sarcastic.
3."Are you mad?"
Rest assured, although your friend doesn't talk much, I'm sure you've seen him/her mad. With that being said, you know when they're mad, they're not quiet. Quiet people tend to explode when they are really mad, so don't even bother asking this one.
4. "Why do you never talk?"
It has been said that the quiet ones are the most dangerous. This may or may not be the reasoning behind your friend being quiet. Either they are plotting everyone's death, or they are just forming an opinion on what is being said. One could turn out really bad, the other not so much. Regardless, this question might turn your sweet as pie quiet friend into the dangers you've been warned about.
5. "What are you thinking?"
Sometimes, they aren't thinking much. And other times, they are thinking way too much. In the first case, your friend will say nothing and it will be true. Other times, the words will pour out of your quiet friend's mouth as soon as this question is posed. Only in those instances will you begin to understand the craziness and intensity of your friend's mind.
