Sometimes Love Is Not A Fairytale

5 Poems And Quotes About Realistic Love
Anneliese Phillips

I always see the true love poems online and on social media preaching that love is always happy and will always work out as long as you love each other. These things are false hope and do nothing to better peoples' lives. Why would someone tell other people that you are entitled to anyone you are interested in? Love is not a fairytale, there is a reason the movies hardly go on after they the honeymoon phase. Love is beautiful, but love also requires work. Love is fighting when you disagree. Love can make you happy and feel wanted, but it can also make you sad, angry, and jealous. Especially if feelings are one sided, but if the feelings are mutual they are worth fighting for. So here are some of my favorite quotes and poems about love in the realistic world.

1.

I don't want a fairytale with you.

I want to be there to help you face your fears,

and to help you overcome your failures.

I want to give you the kind of love that's not distorted

and fabricated.

but real, raw and honest.

-Joel Osteen

2.

He's not perfect. You aren't either, and the two of you will never be perfect. But if he can make you laugh at least once, causes you to think twice, and if he admits to being human and making mistakes, hold onto him and give him the most you can. He isn't going to quote poetry, he's not thinking about you every moment but he will give you a part of him that he knows you could break. Don't hurt him, don't change him, and don't expect more than he can give. Don't analyze. Smile when he makes you happy, yell when he makes you mad, and miss him when he's not there. Love hard when there is love to be had. Because perfect guys don't exist, but there's always one guy that is perfect for you.

-Bob Marley

This is one of my favorite realistic love quotes because it is honest. Also because of the fact that the subject is a man, considering most love quotes revolve the woman in the relationship or her perceptive.

We demand closure as through our lives were put together as neatly as novels, but the fact of the matter is they're not. In real life, relationships are messy and poorly written, ending too early or too late, and sometimes in the middle of the sentence.

- Beau Taplin

"He was my worst mistake but my best lesson" -Unknown

We all have that old relationship that made us learn a lot about how certain individuals can be. This being said, it's not just about men, women are just the same. They teach us to be cautious in relationships. To be patient. And to be weary about the next person you trust.

Its sad knowing that many of us know in the back of our minds that the object of our affection doesn't feel the same way, but we keep waiting for that fairytale ending. The happily ever after in the movies, special moments, whatever you want to call it. We all think that if we keep trying then things will work out, and a lot of times that is true... but sometimes we spend so much time trying to save something that was never there to begin with. And that's the tradegy.

These TV Shows, movies, and music... that give us false hope and unrealistic expectations. But going out and experience things for yourself. Love is beautiful and amazing but you have to have an open mind to it. It comes when it's meant to and can't be focused upon someone. Be open to new things and new people.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
