Well, let's be honest here. Fargo, North Dakota, is not the most exciting place in the world. When I came to NDSU in August, I basically gave up on the thought that I was ever going to have fun. Coming from a suburb of the Twin Cities, it was not something I was prepared for or that I really even thought about. I guess I thought fewer people would party--not that there is anything wrong with partying. So slowly my friends and I found out fun things to do around Fargo North Dakota and the NDSU campus.
1. Free bowling on Friday and Saturday nights
In the Memorial Union on most Fridays and Saturdays, you can bowl for free if you arrive after 9:30 p.m. Bowling is always a fun thing to do with friends. They also have free pool and free air hockey and shuffle board. All you need is an ID. You can even buy concessions there such as chips, soda, and pizza.
2. Anything that Campus Attraction hosts
Campus Attractions is an on-campus organization that has super fun weekend events. They range from tie-dye to casino night, ginger bread house making, and even a carnival. They generally do at least one thing a weekend, usually beginning at 9:30. They also usually have free food. I mean, who doesn't love free food? They are really good at advertising so you can generally find advertising in your email, residence halls, dining centers or the Union.
3. Memorial Union movie nights
On Friday and Saturday nights, the Union puts on a movie in the theater --usually pretty popular movies, too. It's a fun time to go and watch a movie on the big screen completely free. So grab a bag of popcorn, a soda and some friends and go watch a movie!
4. The West Acres Mall
OK, yes maybe it sounds cliche like we are back in seventh grade, but it is usually pretty fun. The mall has a lot of good stores, good food choices, lots of seating, and even a pet store with puppies and kittens and bunnies. It is pretty cute and always a good way to kill some time.
5. Any place with cheap good food.
College kids love two words: free and food. Especially when they are put together. So even though it may not be free food, cheap food is a close second. Fargo has lots of good options. Some of them include Taco Bell, Taco John's, McDonald's, Bdubs, Perkins, and Applebee's. You can just go with a handful of friends, split some apps and talk at the table laughing and having a good time.
Fargo has many more fun and exciting places that I didn't put in here! You can find them maybe just driving one day, or going on a walking adventure one day. NDSU is a lot of fun and loves giving students the opportunity to be involved and meet new people. So get involved, go to things, meet people.
Go Bison!
