Formal recruitment is a scary and exciting thing. In those couple days, you will be working on finding your forever home and some of the greatest friends you will ever have. I remember when I went through recruitment, I was stressed about every detail, from my hair to what I was saying. Here is some advice to become a part of the sisterhood where you belong.
1. Know some of the recruitment language.
There are some things you might want to know. PNM means potential new member, which is what you are. Don't be offended when you get called this. A recruitment consoler is there to help you find your home. They are a group of disaffiliated women who are there to talk you through things and make your journey as smooth as possible. Preference round is normally the last round and it is the most formal. It is where you can see part of the ritual and also it means you are pretty close to getting in that house.
2. Know how to dress.
Each day is going to be more formal than the last, so don't wear your fanciest dress on the first day. Also, don't wear jeans and things you would wear to the gym. I can also not stress enough, you are going to be standing and walking for long periods of time so heels might not be the greatest choice. Also, your make up and hair should reflect who you are, just make sure it is refined and not too crazy.
3. Know what to bring.
You don't need a lot and also won't be able to take things into the houses. The recruitment consolers will be able to hold some things, but not a ton. Some things you should have are mints, a bit of lipstick to touch up, your phone and dorm key, and that is it. Pack light. You don't need a large purse.
4. Don't be nervous.
The girls that you are talking to are very friendly and they are also probably a bit nervous to talk to you. Also, don't try to reinvent yourself now, just be yourself and talk about what you love. I remember I had a nice conversation about mac and cheese with one girl. They are open to talk about anything.
5. Be open minded.
You might not get into that one house, and that is OK. The purpose of recruitment is to help find you a home, but also make sure that that house is a right fit for you. Sometimes that one house you loved won't work out that well.
I hope that these five things will help you and I hope you find your forever home. Good luck.
