5 Perks of Looking Like a Child in Your Adult Years

Everyday someone brings up that fact that I am a 20 year old who looks 12. It never fails. I also hear other younger looking adults talking about how annoying it is to be mistaken for a child. And while it is quite annoying, having the face/body of a 12 year old has its perks. (And yes, I used a picture of Jennifer Aniston as the cover photo..but have you seen how great she looks for her age?!)

Cheaper clothing.

Think of the money you can save shopping in the kids section instead of the women’s. Finding things to fit you when you’re 5’2 and 110 pounds is hard. I HAVE THE BODY OF A CHILD. So at times, I tend to shop in the kids section. It’s cheaper and normally fits me a little better. Now I’m not saying everything I buy is kids clothing because, let’s be honest, no woman is able to resist American Eagle or Hollister. However, if I need work out apparel or yoga pants, you’ll find me shopping in the kids section at Walmart.

Cheaper food at restaurants.

While having a waitress talk to you as if your 2 can be a little irritating, hearing “would you like to order from the kids menu?” is definitely a perk. I normally eat a lot of food, I mean A LOT of food. However, often times, restaurants give too much food and you wind up either not eating half your food or having left overs to take home. At times, I just like to order something cheap to eat then and there and not have to worry about having something to take home, so I order off the kids menu. Most restaurants even give coloring pages or games when someone orders off the kids menu so, if the conversation gets boring at your table or you happen to be alone, you at least have something to do to pass the time until the food comes.

Younger looking skin later in life.

Probably the best thing about looking younger now is the fact that you’ll look younger later in life also. Imagine being 40 and people thinking you look 25. (Again, using Jennifer Aniston as a reference here.) You definitely won’t be complaining about looking young when you constantly hear “WOW you look great!” Which leads me in to my next perk…

Compliments.

Who doesn't love compliments? Even those of us who feel awkward when people compliment us feel a little giddy too. It's nice to know that people see you, that you are being acknowledged. And if you happen to be single, the attention from the opposite sex is a plus. Just watch out for those friends that give you a hard time because even though you're the same age, you look like the group 'baby'.

NOT HAVING TO STRESS OVER HOW YOU LOOK.

This is also a big one. Looking healthy seems to be a big deal in todays society and EVERYONE is stressing over it, especially the younger generation. However, if you look younger and you’re getting compliments all the time, chances are, you’re not stressing over how you look as much. You’re not having to apply that extra layer of makeup because some doofus pointed out your imperfections. In fact, you could probably tone down the makeup and still look great because, let’s be honest, we mostly just apply the makeup to look older. (Maybe we even feel a tiny bit like Homer twirling in a dress when were not stressing over appearances.)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
