Blizzard's new game, "Overwatch," was released May 24, 2016 and so far, it has been amazing. Each player can play one of the 21 "heroes" the game has to offer. They all fall under certain categories, such as offense, defense, tank, and support. So as a fan of the game, I decided to share a list of some of my favorite characters.
1. D.Va
D.Va is a 19-year-old mech pilot who lives and protects her country, South Korea. About 20 years ago, South Korea was attacked by a Ominic. After the attack, the South Korean Government decided to create a unit of mechanized armored drones, known as MEKA. Using her gaming skills, she joined MEKA and now protects her country.
D.Va is one of my all time favorite heroes to use. She is classified as a Tank and has many attributes that can help make a successful team. Some of her features include a Fusion Canon, a Light Gun, Boosters, Defense Matrix, Self Destruct and Call Mech. One of the great things about D.Va is you can always count on her Mech, which I like to call BunBun, to give you a little extra protection. Once it gets destroyed, you have a second chance to run around and shoot with her Light Gun. Although you may get that second chance, her Mech, on the other hand, offers many other features that she cannot do on her own. The Fusion Canons, Boosters and Defense Matrix are most of the common things her Mech has to offer. Her Mech can also be used a nuclear weapon once her Ultimate gets charged and if she doesn't have her Mech equipped, she can also use her Ultimate to summon her mech. D.Va is honestly a great hero to use. Not just because of her game features, but also because of her lively personality.
2. Soldier 76
Soldier 76 is a mysterious vigilante whose identity is unknown. Many believe that he may be an ex Overwatch agent who was apart of the American "soldier enhancement program." Although he is identity is unknown, his mission is to expose the truth of Overwatch's fall.
Soldier 76 is one of my favorite heroes because he is simple to use, especially since I play shooters (a genre of games that usually use guns). He is classified as an Offense hero and can be very helpful when you need to attack. Soldier 76 can sprint and use a Biotic Field, which helps him heal. He also has a Heavy Pulse Riffle, which shoots a fully-automatic pulse fire and has an extra feature to fire tiny rockets which are also known as Helix Rockets. Soldier 76 is a pretty easy character to use. Even his Ultimate, which is known as a Tactical Visor, helps players lock onto enemies that are closest to his crosshairs. Soldier 76 is a great offensive character and using him is simple for me.
3. Bastion
Bastion was once a front line for the Omnic Crisis. Originally the Bastion robots were meant to keep the peace. However, during the Omnic Crisis, the robots were turned against their human creators, forming a rebel army. After the resolution of the crisis, nearly all the Bastion bots were destroyed. All get disassembled, except for one. The one unique and curious Bastion was just forgotten and after years of being offline and covered in vines, Bastion suddenly woke up. Once awoken, he grew very curious about the surroundings around him. Now Bastion explores his natural environment fulfilling his curiosity.
Bastion is a great hero to use for defending an objective. He gets categorized as a Defense hero, and once he reconfigures into a Sentry, he is practically unstoppable. Not only can he turn into a Sentry, but he also can heal himself by using his Self-Repair. Bastion at times can annoy many players and just when you thought he couldn't be anymore unstoppable, his Ultimate allows him to become a Tank. Bastion is easy to use and if you have a team with two or three of them, you can annoy the enemy team and easily defend an objective.
4. Roadhog
Roadhog is a 48-year-old rebel who helped formed the Australian Liberation Front to strike against the omnium, which was built by the government and nearly destroyed Roadhog's home. As the battle continued to escalate, the rebels sabotaged the omnium's fusion core. Which resulted in an explosion that destroyed the facility, and radiated the region. Roadhog's home became a wasteland and to adapt to the environment Roadhog began to wear a gas mask.
Roadhog is a ruthless hero that uses a Scrap Gun and Chain Hook to take down his enemies. His Scrap Gun fires a short-range blast of shrapnel and if his enemies are too far, his Chain Hook can bring them closer. Roadhog can sustain a significant amount of damage and can even heal himself by "Taking a Breather." He is the only Tank that can heal himself, which can classify him as an unstoppable force. As for his Ultimate, he begins to use Whole Hog. His Scrap Gun will be crammed with ammo and for a short time, he cranks out a stream of shrapnel that knocks back his enemies. Roadhog is a Tank that can cause some damage.
5. Mercy
Mercy is a 37-year-old woman who relishes saving lives. Mercy continued to work hard and eventually became the head of surgery at a Swiss hospital before developing a breakthrough in the field of applied nanobiology, which radically improved the treatment of life-threatening illnesses and injuries. This discovery grabbed the attention of the Overwatch organization, leading her to become the Head of Medical Research. Mercy wanted to save many of the soldiers in the frontlines. After the war, Mercy decided to help people who were affected by the war.
Mercy is a true Hero to use as support. With her Guardian Angel wings, she can fly to nearby allies and use her Caduceus Staff to heal or increase the amount of damage they can give. Not only can Mercy help her allies, and even improve them, she can also protect herself with Caduceus Blaster. The blaster is a side arm that can help Mercy protect herself when no one else can. If Mercy were to lose any of her allies during battle, she can Resurrect them with her Ultimate. Mercy is a simple Support to use, and she can surely help her allies survive and achieve their objective.
"Overwatch" so far has been a success and with multiple heroes to play with you can surely find your top five heroes. So far these are mine and I hope to expand the list as I continue to try new heroes. So if you're a fan of the game and you still haven't found the right hero, just keep on trying and enjoy the game.
