One Direction has been stealing hearts and breaking records since their explosion onto the music scene in 2010. With their long locks and adoring fans, One Direction brought back the boy-band era. To many people, One Direction is just another boy band. I’m here to tell you that they’re not. While some of their music does revolve around love and girls, their lyrics go so much deeper than that. In the last six years, One Direction has produced five albums. As the band has matured, so has their music. The guys know that their fans are aging, too, so their music has drastically changed over time. Their most recent album, Made In The A.M., actually blew my mind. It didn’t sound like One Direction at all, but of course, I still loved it. Here are five outstanding lyrics, one from each album, that prove just how underrated One Direction songs really are.
1. "It's like I'm finally awake, and you're just a beautiful mistake."
Anyone who has ever been involved in a toxic relationship or friendship can relate to this feeling. Once you "wake up" and realize how much better off you are without this person, you will be much happier.
2. “If I let you know I’m here for you, maybe you’ll love yourself like I love you.”
All of us need to know that there are people in this world who love us and want to see us happy. Loving yourself isn't always easy, but it sure helps to have family and friends to remind you how special you are.
3. “Don’t forget where you belong, home. If you ever feel alone, don’t.”
When life seems a bit overwhelming, it’s hard not to feel alone. As we grow older, we feel pressured to find our own place in the world. However, I think we all know in our hearts that no matter what happens, we have somewhere or someone to run to.
4. “Does it ever drive you crazy just how fast the night changes?”
Time flies. One day, you’re getting ready for the freshman homecoming dance, and before you know it, you’re halfway through your first semester of college. There have been many days since I started college that I wished I could turn back time to appreciate the moments I took for granted.
5. “And you’ll follow your heart even though it’ll break sometimes.”
We’ve all had our fair share of let downs, but we haven't given up on our dreams. There will be future heartbreaks and disappointments, but don’t let it discourage you from doing what makes you happy.
One Direction can't be written off as just another boy-band. Their talent, lyrical genius, and pure love for their fans is one-of-a-kind. With the current hiatus, we have certainly been missing our boys and their music. Hopefully, the time off will allow them to stir up even more creativity, and come back soon, better than ever.
