5 Of My Biggest And Best Life-Hacks!

While navigating life as an 18-year-old (almost 19) pre-medical sophomore college student, I have come across a few tips and tricks that can help you get through your days! Here are my top five!

1. Put butter in your coffee!

I'm not talking about a quarter of a stick of butter and not even a full slice! All that you need to do in order for this to work is to scrape a few pieces of butter into your morning/afternoon/evening coffee! It has been proven that when butter is added to coffee, it actually causes the caffeine-induced energy boost to last longer. It causes the energy that the caffeine gives to be released slower throughout your day! It works wonders and I happen to do this at least once every day! Don't worry, it doesn't change the taste of your cup of golden wonder. If it did, I wouldn't do it!

"The relationship I have with coffee is one that cannot be duplicated." - Meryl Streep

2. Using dry shampoo isn't a sin!

How someone shampoos their hair is entirely up to them! If you're a person who works out every day or who is really active and sweats a lot, then wash your hair every day. All that oil and grime buildup isn't good for your hair or scalp anyway! If you're a person who doesn't work out every day or who doesn't have a lot of sweat, oil, and grime buildup, then you can go a day or two without washing your hair! It's actually good for your hair to let oils soak in! However, if you're like me, then your hair gets greasy after a whole day without washing! So, use dry shampoo. It works wonders and it makes it look like you just stepped out of the shower!

3. Stay classy!

Dressing up is probably one of my favorite things to do! This isn't something that has been around for long with me, either. For some time, I hated dressing up! However, I have now come to love it and I feel as if I do better on tasks throughout my day when I am wearing some form of "dressy" clothing! It has been proven that those who are dressed well have been able to enter a situation with more confidence than someone who isn't! Confidence is key in many situations! I like to live by the motto, "Dress well, test well." So, buy yourself a "dressy" clothing item! It helps, I promise!

4. Always spend some time outside!

My favorite thing to do is sit on the porch at my grandmother's house in the blue Adirondack chair she has that I can always count on being there. Sitting there while drinking coffee/tea/lemonade/water is probably where I find the most serenity. I love sitting outside, basking in the warmth of the sun, and listening to everything happen. I also enjoy the beach, too! Find some time to get outside and soak up some Vitamin D all while getting to relax and wind down!

5. Learn to love fruits and veggies!

I always eat at least one type of fruit and one type of veggie every day! Today, I had strawberries and asparagus! I feel somewhat healthier when I do this and I know that if I eat fruits and veggies, they will clean my body with their natural abilities! No matter what, you can count on knowing that you're doing something right when you eat a plate of good fruits and veggies! Broccoli and apples, tomatoes and grapes, kale and strawberries, the choices are endless and they're all good ones!

So, these are my top five life hacks for a better day! Follow these and you'll have no reason to not have a good day! However, go through life and expect to find your own life-hacks, too! Everyone is different and everyone navigates their life differently!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
