Mayday Parade has become a quite popular alternative/punk band over the years, and, coincidentally, one of my favorites. With their classic hit, "Miserable at Best", it was no shock that they have been on tour for years now. You're lying if you say you don't know the chorus to "Miserable at Best". But, they have well over 70 songs, and I believe that some of their best ones are the least well known. So if you're looking for new music, like this band, or are just bored, check out these underrated five Mayday Parade songs:
1. "The Torment Of Existence Weighed Against The Horror Of Nonbeing".
"What’s the point if you’ve got one?"
"Cause we all find love when we fall
And we say that it means the whole world
It means nothing at all"
It's from a newer album, but not the newest, and I don't think it got enough credit for being a very down to earth song with a deep message that I feel everyone can relate to at some point in their life. I find this melody to be particularly soothing, it's one of their softer songs.
2. "The Memory".
"Walk away
Barely breathing
As I'm lying on the floor
Take my heart
As you're leaving
I don't need it anymore"
One of the most underrated breakup songs I've ever heard. It's not going to put you in a good mood, but the words are powerful. Also one of their softer ones. The song is relatable to anyone who has ever been through a tough breakup.
3. "When You See My Friends".
"When you see my friends tell 'em hi for me
tell 'em what you think about the way you handled everything
you turned and all you left me with was this broken key
so tell me what you think"
"And give it up for the long nights and all those terrible fights
were you honest with yourself, every version of yourself?
did you get lost on the side of the road?
if you keep acting this way I swear I'll never come home"
I have absolutely no idea why this song isn't more popular. It's in my top five favorites by them. I think the message is relatable, and it's one of their more typically louder songs. It's the perfect song to jam out to in the car on long and/or late night drives.
4. "Girls".
"I was old enough to know better,
Young enough to still decide,
That it was worth my time for something beautiful."
"Girls, please, please,
allow my voice to calm you down.
Boys understand,
girls will never listen or learn."
This is one of the more upbeat songs they've made, in my opinion. I think it's catchy and fun to listen to with a lighthearted message. It was my summer song when it came out. It could be yours too!
5. "Center of Attention".
"You're falling baby
I've been waiting
You took the long way home
In that dress, it makes me crazy
I'm not the only one
It's cold outside
Keep your heart open wide
Save it for somebody who cares
Somebody who cares"
Another very loud and catchy song that went unnoticed because it blended in with such an amazing album. Anyone who appreciates their older music should give it a chance.
As someone who is always listening for more music, I hope a few people will appreciate this. Go listen to Mayday Parade!
