Country radio is great; it plays our favorite hits, introduces us to new songs and reminds us of the classics we just can’t seem to move on from. It’s the first thing a lot of us wake up to, and it's the last thing we hear before we drift off to sleep. But as great as the radio is, it just can’t possibly play all the greatest country music there is all the time -- there are many amazing songs that artists have crafted that have never gotten any (or very little) air time. But no worries, here is a list of five new country songs that you can’t miss and need to put on your playlist as soon as possible.
1.Cole Swindell’s “Should've Ran After You"
Cole’s newest comes off his album “Down Home Sessions II.” Released in 2015, this track has a killer chorus with raw, true lyrics anyone who has ever let someone get away can relate to. It’s a hit with both guys and girls; guys can relate to the feeling of letting her get away and regretting it, and girls love the idea that the guys who broke up with them are kicking themselves for it now and recognizing they shouldn’t have let them go. A powerful ending with Cole’s strong, convicting vocals will leave you moved by his music.
2. Dustin Lynch’s "What You Wanna Hear"
This one comes from Dustin’s brand new album “Where It’s At.” Dustin’s whole album is full of rock-solid songs, but this one’s especially great because it speaks to those who are country down to their roots, the ones who prefer gravel over dirt and boots over dress shoes. It's a hit with country girls as Lynch's lyrics describe not a city boy, but a down-home country man who takes his girl out for an awesome, romantic countrified date. It speaks to those girls who know they want a cowboy, and it tells the boys the perfect way they can win over their country girl’s heart. As the lyrics state, Lynch's lyrics and beautiful tone are "music to your ears."
3. Chris Young’s "Sober Saturday Night"
Chris Young’s new album “I’m Coming Over” is lights out, and in my opinion, the best overall new country album out right now. Young’s album is full of hit after hit, and his clever and meaningful lyrics will catch the attention of all listeners. I’d love to recommend all of his songs from this one, but one in particular, “Sober Saturday Night,” tells the story of how a breakup with a partner can feel as bad as a really bad hangover; except with a break up, no amount of whiskey or alcohol can stop the hurting. This one, featuring Vince Gill, is one of the best I’ve heard in a while, and I’ve more than worn out my repeat button listening to it.
4.Thomas Rhett’s "Learned it From the Radio"
This one comes from Thomas Rhett’s new album “Tangled Up.” This song epitomizes exactly why so many people love country music -- because it’s life, in a song. Rhett describes how everything he’s needed to know in life he’s learned from country music, and country fans who grew up listening to Alan Jackson, Alabama and George Strait will totally fall in love and relate with this one. On a good, solid album, this song stands out from the rest as something all country music lovers can relate to.
5.Luke Bryan’s "Razor Blade"
From an artist whose produced hit after hit, this one by Luke is unique and different. This track captures what it’s like to be blown away on a first impression when it unexpectedly comes out of nowhere. Luke’s choice of words and smooth, calming sound create an interesting and one-of-a-kind perspective about meeting someone new. My favorite off of Luke’s new album “Kill the Lights,” this one gives the ladies an inside look on the influence they have over guys and how they can blow them away, while the guys can relate to Luke’s experience of being mesmorized by a beautiful girl. Luke's lyrics are truly poetic and beautiful.
