With the weather getting cooler and school starting again, we all need to find something to get our minds off actual responsibility and for most of us that something is binge watching. I’m not sure who coordinated the return of all of our favorite shows with back to school, but someone remind me to thank them later.
1. Grey’s Anatomy
Return date: September 22
Do us both a favor and don’t act like you didn’t watch the first three seasons in a week. On a September 22nd, I will shamelessly sit in front of TV with a glass of wine and allow Shonda Rhimes to ruin my life for a 13th season. Cast members have leaked that this season they will be focusing on the original cast and there is even some speculation on a Cristina and (wait for it…) Izzie comeback, so make that glass a bottle.
2. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life
Release Date: November 25
Netflix has pulled through for us with a revival, once again. After 9 long years, on November 25 at 12:01 am we can all return to Stars Hollow. The revival will consist of 4 ninety minute episodes labeled “Winter”, “Spring”, “Summer” and “Fall” and will take place in current day. Thankfully, more than 40 original cast members will be returning so really the only thing that will be missing is the killer early 2000's fashion.
3. The Case Of: Jonbenet Ramsey
Release Date: September 18
This CBS docuseries will run in 3 two-hour installments, starting on September 18, and will probably make me sleep with the light on for at least a month afterwards. The series focuses on the unsolved murder of JonBenet Ramsey, a 6-year-old pageant queen who was killed on December 26, 1996. Almost 20 years later, a team of experts revisits the case using technology, which was not available back then in the hopes of finally finding out what happened. "This little girl's homicide to this date has not been resolved. In my opinion, I think we can change that right now," says retired FBI special agent James Fitzgerald in the trailer. If you loved Making of a Murderer, you should probably make sure to DVR this one.
4. Designated Survivor
Release Date: September 21, 2016
Little known fact about our nation: there is an appointed cabinet member named the “designated survivor” who is placed in an undisclosed and distant location every time the country’s top leaders are gathered together. To me, this job seems like the perfect way to get out of doing any and all work but that is not the case for Tom Kirkman, the low-level cabinet member and “designated survivor” who becomes president after an attack on the United States kills the president and all other members of the cabinet. The series follows him and his family as he tries to keep the country from falling into chaos. This scenario seems like the only thing more terrifying than our current election situation.
5. Quantico
Release Date: September 25, 2016
It’s back and it will no doubt be better than ever. Quantico will be returning for a second season on September 25 and after the first season ended in a heart-breaking cliffhanger, you can catch me seated in front of my TV an hour before air time to make sure I don’t miss anything. If you weren’t able to watch the first season, don’t worry it’s all on Hulu and a perfect end of the summer binge watch. Not to mention, the super fit cast is also a plus.
