One of the great things about living in a well-known college town is knowing that certain music artists love coming to entertain your school. This semester is no different.

While there is a lengthy list of entertainers coming to Columbia in the next few months, here are five acts you should experience for yourself, in calendar order.

1. Cole Swindell. If you’re a fan of country, you’ve probably heard Swindell’s debut single “Chillin It”.  The single came out last year and is still played consistently on the radio, while his first full album came out this year. Swindell will be playing outside of the Blue Note on September 5th on Ninth Street. The doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the concert starts at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be bought with student charge the Student Center.

2. I’m Shmacked. The national collegiate sensation is finally making its first stop at Mizzou! The I’m Shmacked crew is putting on a concert on Friday, September 12th at the Blue Note, and is bringing in LOUDPVCK to bring the noise. BroBible.com recently put the trap duo on their 10 Best Up-and-Coming DJs List.  This is the same weekend of the Central Florida football game, so expect to see the cameras at the game, too. The doors open for the concert at 8:30 p.m. and the show starts at 9:30 p.m. Tickets range from $30-$100. Get ready to be Shmacked.

3. Roots N’ Blues N’ BBQ Festival. One of the crown jewels of Columbia’s annual entertainment, Roots N’ Blues, brings big names in the Blues genre along with a 10K and half marathon run. Artists this year include the Avett Brothers, Rosanne Cash (Johnny’s daughter), Trampled By Turtles and many others. The festival opens Friday, September 26th and continues all weekend until Sunday the 28th.  Tickets can range from $40 for an all-day pass to $250 for VIP for the weekend.

4. Foster the People & Kip Moore. While these are two separate concerts, the fact that they are on back-to-back days makes me have to combine them into one spot on this list.

On Wednesday, October 8th, Foster the People will play outside on Ninth Street in front of the Blue Note. Their debut album came out in 2011, and their song “Pumped Up Kicks” became a massive hit, and the group just released their new album “Supermodel”. The show starts at 8:00 p.m. and tickets are $30.

The next day, country music star Kip Moore takes over the Ninth Street stage. Performing his radio hits like “Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck”, “Hey Pretty Girl” and “Beer Money”, Moore will sure to give a great show to all who see it. The show starts at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 9th, and tickets are $25 for general admission and $99 for VIP.

5. Atmosphere. The Minneapolis duo is coming to the Blue Note as a part of their North of Hell Tour, and are bringing their friends from their Rhymesayers label. The hip-hop veterans recently dropped their latest album “Southsiders” in May, and are known for their songs like “Sunshine” and “Yesterday”. The show starts at 8:00 p.m. and tickets cost $20 in advance and $22 the day of the show. I don’t know about you, but I will be one of the first people in the doors at this show.

Honorable Mentions:

The Mowgli’s. This alternative band from California came onto the scene in 2013, releasing their album ”Waiting for the Dawn” and are known for their song “San Francisco” reached #11 on the Billboard Charts the same year. The show starts at 8:00 p.m. at the Blue Note on Tuesday, September 9th. To top it off, local band Tidal Volume will open the show.

MGK. The Cleveland-based rapper Machine Gun Kelly will be at the Blue Note on Thursday, October 16th. MGK is most widely known for his single “Wild Boy” and his clothing line with Young and Restless. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
