1. Sandlot
This sports movie is a summertime classic. Smalls, Benny, Squints and the rest of the gang will make you laugh while they go on their crazy journey to get a baseball, signed by Babe Ruth, out of a neighboring yard. The only problem is that the ball is being guarded by a menacing dog that has supposedly eaten a person. You'll fall in love with these boys as they encounter not only "the beast," but also pretty lifeguards and chewing tobacco.
2. The Great Outdoors
Another classic summer movie that will provide some good laughs is "The Great Outdoors." This is the story of two families that vacation together in a lake house and experience a little taste of the wilderness. They encounter trash-eating raccoons, massive thunderstorms and "killer" bears. This story will have you laughing until you cry as you watch the families try to get through this vacation with as little fighting as possible.
3. The Parent Trap
This was my favorite movies growing up and in my opinion, it's still one of the greatest summer classics. Hallie and Annie meet at Camp Walden and after being sent to the isolation bunk for fighting, come to find out that they're twins who were separated as babies. The two then devise a plan to switch places so that Hallie can meet her mom and Annie can meet her dad. These girls will have you on the edge of your seat as you watch their wild schemes.
4. Dirty Dancing
One of the most romantic movies of all time, "Dirty Dancing" is definitely a summer classic. Baby (Jennifer Grey) is disappointed with her less than extraordinary summer which involves staying at a summer resort with her parents. But things get more exciting when the hot dance instructor, Johnny (Patrick Swayze), asks Baby to perform with him. This dynamic duo will make you fall in love with their relationship.
5. Jaws
Last but not least, you can't go a summer without scaring yourself just enough to avoid ocean waters. This is the classic story of a summer town that has shark infested waters. Martin, the police chief of Amity Island is faced with a tough decision, close the beaches and lose all of the business from tourists or let the public go in unsafe waters. After several attacks, Martin has no choice but to hire the famous ship captain, Quint, to catch and kill this beast. Even though this movie might create a little paranoia while going to the beach this summer, it's one of the greatest classics of all time. And don't forget, the shark used in this movie is just a robot!
