5 Little Things That Have Changed My Life

Sometimes the smallest things can have the biggest impact.

Throughout the years, I have come across certain things that have turned out to change my life for the better. Little life hacks, if you will. These are things that have made me more productive and organized, which calms down my inner OCD Virgo side. It has occurred to me that it's usually the simplest little tweaks that can change your life in the biggest ways!

1. Always be early for things. Always.

I cannot even begin to tell you how much not being on time stresses me out. For the longest time, I would procrastinate, or wait until the very last minute to leave for something, which of course led me to freak out about being late the whole way there. It's a complete weight off of your shoulders to be early to anything, that way you don't have to panic if something does happen where you would be a couple minutes later than normal.

2. GET GAS THE NIGHT BEFORE.

DO NOT WAIT UNTIL MORNING. If you aren't one of those people who wants to be early to everything, get your gas the night before. Because I know a hundred people (myself included) that says "I'll wait to get gas in the morning" and once morning rolls around you completely forget you need gas. Which means you leave on time where you'll get to work or school with no time to spare. There's nothing better than the feeling of running late as it is, turning on your car and seeing that lovely gas light pop up, am I right?

3. Spend as much time as you can with your pets.

This should already be a given, but to those who don't know - take some time out of your day to hang out with your animals. While they might not be your whole world, (let's be real here, they should be) we are there's. It can literally be as simple as sitting on the ground and petting them.

4. When your family asks you to hang out with them, do it.

Yeah, there's that movie that's playing tonight or all of your friends are going out to your favorite bar, but I can guarantee hanging out with your family is ten times more rewarding. Recently, my mom asked me to go and play Bingo with her and a few of her friends, and the first thought in my head was "What am I, 100 years old?" Turns out, it's actually a lot of fun. Plus, I get to put in some quality time with her, which makes it even more worth it.

5. Keep busy with hobbies.

I would rather have my schedule jam packed with things to do than sit around all day. So, find things to do that occupy your time and mind. Redecorate your room, join a club, spend your Sunday's at the local farmer's market. Anything. Anything that makes you happy and keeps you busy. I've found that doing a bunch of little activities has made me the most sane that I've been in a long time.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
