5 Life Lessons From 'Friends'
Friends

Your favorite TV show characters Joey, Chandler, Ross, Monica, Rachel and Phoebe have been around for what seems like forever, and they haven’t gotten old yet. For over 22 years now the show "Friends" has been on television. If you’ve never watched or heard about this show, you must be living under a rock. Over those 22 years, it has filled lives with sadness, happiness, and tons of laughter. No matter how many times you watch the show, it never seems to get old because each episode has something truly important to say to it’s audience. "Friends" has shown us so many important life lessons to know. Underneath all of the jokes and laughter, "Friends" has a lot to say about what life is; that it is not perfect. You have to work hard, be happy, laugh and have a good time even if your life is a complete mess.

1. Don’t give up on your dreams.

If you followed the show "Friends" from episode one to the final episode, then you realize how much the character’s lives have changed over time. They are all very young and trying to make a living in the city. The show shows that you cannot give up on your dreams no matter how hard life gets because life does get really hard. The show is not really those types of shows where the characters immediately make it big time in the city. This is a show that allows you to see reality. Joey lands a few huge acting jobs, but to get there he had to do some pretty lame things, especially that commercial for men’s lipstick. Monica went from dancing on tables in a 50's style restaurant to head chef at a popular dining spot in the city. Chandler decided that instead of staying at a job where the pay was good but he wasn’t happy to something he actually wanted to do. Life isn’t about selling out for the money, it’s about learning not to squander creativity. Let it fly, even if selling out is easiest. The show allows you to see that sometimes life is going to kick you in the ass, but you have to start somewhere.

2. Everyone has their Lobster.

Your lobster is the one for you. The one who’s meant to be. Throughout the entire show Ross is in love with Rachel. We all knew it. It was a constant battle, but after three divorces, forgiveness for the “we were on a break,” the 11 page note for ross, and all the fights, they finally end up together. Everyone has their lobster so don’t try and force it with someone because the right person is out there for you. You’re going to date other people and get your heart broken a couple times until you find the one, but the one is always out there.

3. The SuperMarket is not the place to find a roommate.

Crazy Eddie!!! - Chandler made the mistake of picking up a new roommate in the supermarket. No matter how heartbroken and desperate you are for a roommate because your favorite roommate moved out, do not go to the supermarket looking for one. There are some crazy people in this world, and they are the ones that will agree to live with you after meeting you in a supermarket. Supermarkets are meant to buy food, not find a roommate, you’ll only be left with a roommate who is crazy and watches you sleep.

4. Surrogacy and adoption are OK.

That is the crazy thing about this world, where some people think that having a surrogate or adopting a child is not normal or acceptable. Monica wanted to have children of her own more than anything else in this world. She thought the only way for her to have children and be happy with them is if she gave birth to them herself. Quickly, she realized that is not what having a child is about. Having a child is about raising another human being and loving them unconditionally. She realized that being a mother to a child who was from someone who did not want a child, was much better than having no child at all. After thinking a lot about her and Chandler’s inability to have children naturally, she wanted nothing more than to have kids. It did not matter how she got one. She was willing to go through any situation to be able to be a mother. She went with adoption, and she and Chandler ended up with two beautiful babies. Adoption is not the only way to have a child if you cannot physically have one yourself as surrogacy is another option. For Phoebe’s brother and his older wife, surrogacy was the choice. Phoebe ended up being the surrogate for them, and it was the most beautiful kind gesture for her to do for her brother and his wife. They ended up with three beautiful children.

5. Friendship is more important than looks.

BRACELET BUDDIES!! After Joey gave Chandler a golden friendship bracelet, Chandler was upset. He looked at it superficially. He looked at how it affected his image, and it was embarrassing. That is where Chandler was wrong. Friendship isn't about superficiality. That gift may have been embarrassing, and people may have made fun of him for wearing - but the point is that the gift came from Joey’s heart. It wasn't until he hurt Joey’s feelings that Chandler realized what it really meant. He understood that friendship is more than just worrying about the way your friends affect your image. So he went along with it. He and Joey both wore those ugly gold bracelets because that is what friends do. They don't worry about how they look; they worry about how each other feel.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
