5 Lessons We Can Learn From Young Children

I have to admit I LOVE little kids. I find them undeniably adorable and utterly hilarious. I would consider myself an avid babysitter, and while my youngest sibling is 17 (not exactly a baby) I do spend my fare share of time around the little ones. While they are super cute and can almost always make you laugh, I would venture to say that is not even the greatest part about young children. In my opinion, kids live their lives in a way all of us should strive to. Here are 5 lessons of a simpler life we can learn from the kiddos…

1. To love everyone.

Young kids don’t see in color, shape, or size. It does not matter if a person is white, black or purple, big, small, or tall, or blonde, grey, or brown. All they want to do is play tag on the playground and dig up bugs to give to the teacher! If you want to play then come join! They don’t care what you look like! It doesn’t even cross their mind.

2. To enjoy the little things.

Nothing is more exciting than when daddy comes home from work, or mommy lets you have a cookie after dinner. Going to the pool might as well be going to the Bahama’s, and pizza for dinner is a 5 star meal!

3. You don’t always have to hide your emotions.

Yes their comes a point in life when you can not just burst into tears whenever someone cuts in front of you in line, but it is okay to be upset sometimes! You do not have to be a stone wall all the time. We are human, we feel!

4. Smile at strangers.

You never know who’s day you might make with a simple smile. The possibility of turning someone’s terrible day around with a small act of kindness is never a waste!

5. Always be yourself.

Rain boots and a sparkly scarf when it is 85 degrees and sunny? Sure, why not! Children do not care what the latest trends are they simply want to be themselves!

We all grow up, it is inevitable. But if we occasionally think back to what it is like to live more like a child, I think we all might want to dance around in our PJs a little bit more often.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
