It’s January which means it's that time of year to start applying for internships and or summer jobs. Below are some tips to help you ace your interview.
1. Research the company.
The person interviewing you is probably going to ask you about the company itself. For instance, they could ask why you want to work for the company, or how the company interests you. Do your research before the interview so you won’t be caught off guard.
2. Dress the part.
Show an interest in yourself and the job by dressing professionally. By doing this, you’ll show respect for yourself and the company you’re applying to.
3. Practice your handshake.
Before you go into your interview, practice your handshake on one of your friends to ensure that it is strong and firm. Nothing is worse than when someone gives you a limp handshake. A firm handshake shows confidence and your interest in the position. If you give a weak handshake, the interviewer may remember that and that could potentially be a reason you weren’t hired.
4. Be Confident.
You’re bound to be nervous, it happens, but pump yourself up beforehand. It may sound silly, but look in a mirror and tell yourself that you’re going to rock the interview. If you’re confident going into the interview and end up not getting the job, it’s their loss, not yours.
5. Talk yourself up.
If the position requires knowledge of something you’ve never done before tell the interviewer that you don’t know much about it, but are willing to learn. If they know you are willing to learn, the better off you’ll be. It all comes back to confidence.
