As we head into finals week, you may seem torn up, stressed and disappointed. It is crazy how sometimes your whole life's plans can come down to one test. Keep in mind as you approach your finals week, whether it is your first or your last, that you've got this. There is nothing in your way on your path to success. Here are five of my favorite quotes that always make me feel powerful and like I can do anything.
1. "The fate of millions unborn, depends on us here today." - George Washington
This memorable quote said by our first president is one that I am sure glad that someone took the time to write down. It is sobering enough to draw all of your thoughts to the future and to think about who all your success will be effecting. As we venture in to a personal battle with our exams, take it seriously and think of those born and unborn that the outcome will impact.
2. " No, they will see free men! And freedom! And what the enemy will see is the flash of our cannons. They will hear the ring of our swords, and they will know what we can do! By the sweat of our brows, and the strength of our backs…and the courage of our hearts! Gentlemen! Hoist the colors." - Elizabeth Swann, "Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End"
As you near the end, think of this quote from one of my favorite movies. You may feel trapped by the burdens of being a college student. I take this quote as being, we are't free yet, but we are going to be, and we are going to put up a great fight in order to get what we want. When you enter the room to take that last test remember the last four words, "Gentlemen, hoist the colors," because it as at that time your fight begins.
3. " It always seems impossible until it's done." - Nelson Mandela
Nothing is impossible. The great Nelson Mandela put it best. You never see the light at the end of the tunnel until you have reached the finish line. It may not seem like it now, but all of this time, work, and money is going to be worth it. Just keep pushing.
4. "Sure it's a big job; but I don't know anyone who can do it better than I can." - John F. Kennedy
It is usually a fight between you and yourself, but it is your job to complete. There is no one else who can complete the tasks that you have started. They are yours for the taking and yours to finish. You've made it the other 15 weeks. Don't let yourself go on the 16th week.
5. " It is what it is. Accept it and move on." - Unknown
When it's all said and done, don't worry about it. You've done your best and there is nothing that you can do about it now. Don't hang on to the questions that you have gotten wrong. Don't fret about all of the time that you have studied, or didn't study. You have reached the end of the tunnel, and it is time to continue with your life.
I hope that you are as inspired by theses quotes as I am. This week is just a test and the light is at the end of the tunnel. Keep pushing and keep fighting. Don't give up quite yet. You are so very close. Be patient. Study wisely. Don't dwell on the things that are out of your control. Good luck. You've got this.
