5 Harry Potter Quotes We Could All Learn From

"You're a wizard Harry." The phrase that started it all. The phrase that sparked an entire phenomenon and created a world completely unlike our own. Growing up, I fell in love with this whimsical and magical world full of enchantments and spells. I used to dream of going to Hogwarts and was seriously bummed when my letter never arrived. (Still waiting Hogwarts...) It was the classic tale of good vs. evil - full of heartbreak, struggle and how love can overcome anything. Despite how far from reality this is, it is possible to learn lessons from Harry Potter and apply it to our own lives. Here are 5 Harry Potter quotes that are guaranteed to teach you a thing or two.

1. "Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light." - Dumbledore

Light and darkness along with happiness and sadness have a direct correlation to each other. We all have bad times in our lives, while we also have wonderful times. We must remember that the darkness we are experiencing WILL pass, and be replaced with a beautiful light. Push through those bad times and soon enough good will come your way.

2. "It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to your enemies, but a great deal more to stand up to your friends." - Dumbledore

This was the part where Dumbledore grants Neville with 10 points, therefore winning Gryffindor the house cup (AKA the best part ever). Not only was this a triumphant moment, but Dumbledore reminded us that all kinds of courage exists in this world and how difficult it is to stand up to your closest friends.

3. "Working hard is important. But there is something that matters even more: believing in yourself." - Harry Potter

In life, we are constantly reminded to work hard at everything we do. We have to put forth our best ability so that we can succeed. While I agree with that, it doesn't even matter if you don't believe in yourself. If you don't think you can do it, then what's the point in even trying at all? You KNOW you have what it takes to succeed, so gain some confidence and start believing in yourself.

4. "Dark times lie ahead of us, and there will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right." - Dumbledore

Just do the right thing. Everybody says it, but is it always the easiest thing to do? No. Sometimes doing the right thing means you have to hurt someone's feelings or frankly do something you don't want to do. However, taking the easy route will never work out the way you want or leave you feeling content with your decision. Take the hard path and do what's right, because in the end, you know that's what you need to do.

5. What is life without a little risk? - Sirius Black

Seriously, what an amazing quote. When has playing it safe in life got you anywhere? Exactly. Sometimes our biggest risks have turned out to be our biggest blessings. Taking risks allows us to try new things and jump out of our comfort zones. Most importantly, taking risks can lead us to something that can make us absolutely happy. So stop playing it safe and take a risk on something you've always wanted. It could be the best decision of your life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
