Ah, spring break has hit colleges across the nation! Some people are traveling, partying, and participating in the Spring Break traditions. Others are simply staying home! And that's fine, too! Sometimes you just need a break to relax in a familiar environment. I promise, home has some of the greatest comforts.
1. Free Laundry!
I know that I didn't do laundry at college for longer than I should have, because I knew that I would be returning home where laundry is so much easier to get done. There's just something comforting about being familiar with your home laundry system and using detergent that doesn't come in pod form. Also, that one shirt that you haven't washed because it gets wrinkly can now get washed and ironed. It's pure luxury.
2. Your own shower!
As the cliche saying goes, "Home is where the shower shoes aren't." And I could never agree more. There is nothing more comforting than knowing that the stray hair stuck to the wall of your shower is either yours or that of someone closely related to you. You know exactly how to get the water the perfect temperature and there is no awkward standing to the side of the first cold jet of water. All the soap and shampoo is already in its rightful place, waiting for you. Amazing, I say. Maybe the best reason to be at home over Spring Break.
3. Your own bed!
Being able to sleep in your own bed at home is definitely one of the best things about being home. It smells good, feels good, and has the dent which cocoons your body in just the right place. It isn't the plastic mattress that you are used to in a dorm room, no. It's a real mattress. It's amazing. Staying in bed actually sounds like a pretty good way to spend Spring Break.
4. Real food!
You get used to eating instant food (*clears throat ramen) and fast food in college. I'm pretty sure that my chicken nugget intake has never been this high. Access to real food and a real kitchen is always a highlight of being home. Dining hall food has a way of getting on your nerves after a while, so it's nice to be able to have good meals at your fingertips. Also, not having to walk very far for a bowl of cereal is a blessing.
5. Pets!
My dog gets so excited every time I come home that I feel like royalty. Why would I want to miss out on that? Even the cat likes me for 5 minutes. It's great! Being home for Spring Break is a good time to see pets that we have left behind. They are an important part of our lives, and we miss them when we are at college. I totally wish that I could bring them with me to school. Unfortunately, most of us have to settle for visits instead. It makes being home worth it!
