Are you looking for something new to watch on Netflix? If you are a fan of comedy look no further. Sitcoms are the greatest kind of shows to watch if you just want to sit down and watch something that will make you laugh, without the time commitment of dramas. There are plenty of great comedy shows on Netflix (and unfortunately, more that are not on Netflix) that are definitely worth watching.
5. Family Guy
Ok, If I were still in middle school, this would definitely be number one. Since that is not the case, it does deserve an honorable mention as a timeless cult classic. Family Guy follows the day to day life of Peter Griffin, a man who loves to drink, and coincidentally, works at a brewery. Other important characters include his wife, Lois Griffin, who is a stay at home mom to 3 children, Meg, the oldest (and also the most picked on), Chris, the middle child (who is not so smooth with the ladies, or schoolwork) and Stewie, the baby who has matricidal fantasies, while also exhibiting a flamboyant personality. Seth MacFarlane stars in this classic comedy. Family Guy is on Netflix and has a whopping 13 seasons available.
4. American Dad
American Dad was one of those shows where it had a cast that I was familiar with, so I thought “Why not give it a shot?” I was very pleased with the level of humor. American Dad tells the tale of Stan Smith, a staunch conservative who works at the CIA. His wife Francine is also a stay at home mom. Their daughter Hayley is a liberal, so she is always at odds with her father. Steve, the younger of the two children, is in high school and has a group of nerdy friends who make it their life goal to be more popular with the girls. Oh by the way, they also live with a talking fish and an alien. It really makes you wonder what the CIA is up to. Seth MacFarlane stars as Stan Smith. American Dad has 10 seasons available on Netflix.
3. Futurama
If you’re looking for something a little more extraordinary, try watching Futurama. This show follows a young man named Fry, and his incredible accident. He goes out on a pizza delivery run one day and accidentally becomes cryogenically frozen for 1,000 years. When he is finally thawed, Fry learns he is in the year 3000 in a city called New New York. He escapes the captors that thawed him and finds his only descendant, a 175-year-old scientist, who is Fry’s nephew, Professor Farnsworth. Farnsworth gives Fry a job working for him, and this sets the course for the rest of the show. Futurama had a great 14-year run, but came to an end on September 4th, 2013. Futurama has 7 seasons (some of which are split into 2 parts). Every single episode is currently available on Netflix. Billy West stars in this futuristic fable.
2. F is for Family
A show that’s new to the game, F is for Family is a welcomed Netflix exclusive. As a result, this show breaks some of the barriers, and would have been much more censored if it were on cable. F is for Family highlights the 1970’s life of Frank Murphy, Father of 3 who works at his local airport. Frank is a total basket case who flies off of the handle at the slightest annoyance. His kids consist of a pot smoking high schooler, and two elementary aged siblings that are always at each other's throats. With only 6 episodes (right, not seasons) available to watch on Netflix, this show had me in tears laughing. Bill Burr stars in this hilariously irreverent comedy. A second season has been promised to those of us who want more.
1. Rick and Morty
Coming in at the number one adult animated sitcom, Rick and Morty is about the loving relationship of a grandfather and his grandson. The grandfather, Rick, transports them across time and space almost daily, and the grandfather uses his grandson, Morty, for his own personal gain. You know, the average grandfather-grandson relationship. What makes this show so great is that Rick has no filter, and he comes up with some creative insults when he's mad, and creative expressions to let you know that he sincerely doesn’t care. If this list were solely about laugh value, it would have fallen behind F is for Family, however, Rick and Morty is great because it is not only hilarious, but also engages you in the story by putting some emotional storylines in there every now and then. It will bring up things from past episodes every now and then as well, so it loosely follows a story. Justin Roiland stars in this intergalactic epic. Unfortunately, neither of the two seasons of Rick and Morty are on Netflix, but you can find them elsewhere on the internet if you look hard enough.
