5 Things I'm Grateful For This Thanksgiving

Seriously, I'm lucky to have the people and things I have in my life.

Thanksgiving is a time to gather, celebrate and appreciate the things and people you have in your life. In reality, we should be thankful for these every day, but we get so boggled down with every-day issues that we forget to do so. Regardless, here are a few things I'm thankful for.

1. My family

It's cliché, but it's obviously true: regardless of how much I do argue with my parents or disagree with aunts and uncles, I really am thankful for every single individual that I call my family.

2. My friends

Growing up without siblings, my friends were the people I had closest to sisters and brothers. And even at 20, this is still true. I'm grateful for the people who have been with me through both good and bad times, who have seen me cry and lent me a shoulder - and as for those I consider my closest friends, here's hoping we never drift apart.

3. An education

We take it for granted in North America - we don't really remember the fact that there are so many people out there who do not have access to an education. Most of us here, however, go all the way through high school with free education. Even after that, many of us continue through post-secondary education and get degrees. But there are so many people in other countries, and even some in our own, that can't do the same. This is especially true when it comes to the millions of young girls and women who are not even considered equal enough to be given an education.

4. The experiences I've had

I know I'm only 20, and many might say that I haven't even seen the real world yet. But still, I'm grateful for the experiences I've had so far; both the good and the bad. The good, because it leaves me with memories I'll never forget. And the bad because, no matter how terrible they were, I came out of them stronger than before and learning a lesson.

5. Food

Yes, I mean this in the sense that I'm lucky to have never had to skip a meal or go hungry because I couldn't afford it. But also, on a more lighter note in this heavy article, I'm just grateful that so many different kinds of food exist, and that I get the opportunity to try them all. Mac n Cheese? That's pretty much a go-to meal at any time. And being a chocoholic? My teeth might not like it, but I'll eat anything with sugar and cocoa.

So this Thanksgiving, make sure to eat a LOT. Eat everything, have a good time with family, and take a moment out of your busy lives to be thankful!

Happy Thanksgiving!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
