My Journey to Becoming Fearless

5 Fears I Outgrew During My First Year of College
Hannah Walsh

Going into college, I was very fearful of things. While I’m not completely fearless now, I am so much more fearless than ever before because of my experiences in college and how God has worked in me these past few months. Here’s 5 fears that I’ve outgrown in college:

1.Fear of missing out

It doesn’t matter if I’m up to date on social media or if I don’t have enough likes on my post.College has taught me that there’s more important things than social media, TV, and pop culture, and that not staying up to date with the newest trends is okay.

2.Fear of public speaking

While this is definitely a work in progress, in college I have become more comfortable speaking in front of the class. In middle school, I would actually cry in front of the class when I had to present something. Now, I hardly feel nervous to present projects.

3.Fear of being alone

I’ve embraced being single this year.Knowing that no one can complete me except God has allowed me to enjoy being single.Focusing on my eternal purpose has also helped me enjoy single life.

4.Fear of talking on the phone

I used to hate calling people on the phone that I didn’t know, but after having to do it in college, I’ve outgrown the hatred.I still don’t really like it, but I can do it without being too upset about it now.

5.Fear of driving on the interstate

After taking a cross-country road trip this spring break, I feel a lot more comfortable driving on the interstate. In high school, when I was first learning to drive, I was horrified to drive on busy roads.

Overall, my first year of college has taught me a lot. I’ve really enjoyed this year and can’t wait to see what I will learn next year!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
