My 5 Favorite Travel Experiences

Travel is one of the most enriching experiences. I've spent a good part of the last three years packing my suitcase, catching flights, and seeing life in a brand new perspective. Each trip holds a special meaning to me and I'm always excited for the next one. My favorite part of travel is planning out the experiences (looking at pictures and seeing what a place has to offer), seeing those pictures turn into tangible surroundings around me, and then being able to share those memories with family and friends back home. I've listed below 5 of some of my favorite experiences while abroad. The moments that I took a second and thought, "Is this really my life right now?" I encourage you to put some of them on your own travel bucket list and prepare to be amazed.

1. Sandboarding in Peru

Huacachina, Peru is still on the top of my bucket list, because I have to go again. I didn't know an oasis in a desert was a real thing until I slept in one and then spent the next day surfing on sand. The experience is one wild ride as your tour guide takes you on a high speed drive around the dunes and finishes off your night with a beautiful sunset view. I'll admit that I cried a bit at the majesty of it all.

2. Party Boat on the Sea of Galilee

The Dead Sea, Masada, and Jerusalem - there is so much ancient wonder in Israel to take in. One of my favorite experiences while visiting though was a bit unconventional. The group I was traveling with headed out onto the Sea of Galilee on a party boat. We spent the day on the water dancing to traditional Israeli music, eating Falafel, and hanging our feet overboard. The relaxation and good company made it an unforgettable experience.

3. Sunrise in Havana, Cuba

The cool thing about Cuba is that rooftops are totally fair game. Most of them are unlocked and you can literally hop between buildings on them. This is great for cityscape photography, which is one of the reasons I found myself on the highest skyscraper at 5am. I wasn't as prepared for how impactful it would be to watch the quiet, dimly lit streets of Havana turn into a bustling city as the sun rose steadily higher in the sky.

4. Gelato in Italy

Everyone who knows me understands my undying love for Italy. There is never a place that I've felt that I needed wifi less. I love connecting to the culture, seeing the architecture, and hearing the music. I also tend to treat myself to gelato at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, which just secures my love of the country as a whole.

5. Teotihuacan Pyramids in Mexico

I can barely put Ikea furniture together, so arriving to the Teotihuacan Pyramids was eye opening. I couldn't comprehend how such elaborate structures could be constructed so many millions of years ago. The 248 stair climb to the top of the Pyramid of the Sun was no walk in the park, but the view over the surrounding area of Mexico was well worth it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
