Rewind fifteen years. I was about five years old and, to pass the time, I would watch a multitude of movies, mostly action.
If you've ever wondered what a movie critic loved as a child, you might be surprised:
1. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace
2. Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
A box with just about equally as much wear, Return of the Jedi actually carried into my top 10 favorite movies as of right now. The action is possibly the best of the whole original trilogy, and the scenes with The Emperor are so enthralling. I find those to be my favorite now, but as a young child, I thought the Dune Sea battle sequence was the best.
3. Goldeneye
My love for Goldeneye actually stemmed from one of my favorite video games on the N64 of the same name. I thought the game was so good, why not watch the movie to see if it’s equally as interesting? Well, it definitely was, and it’s a film I watched time and time again as an adolescent.
4. Arthur’s Perfect Christmas
Alright, before you laugh at me, I was definitely a Christmas child. It was one of my favorite holidays, not just for the presents, but because it was one of the rare times my family actually gathered together fully. I remember relishing those times, and I think that’s why a movie featuring my favorite younger childhood cartoon character AND favorite holiday was so important and meaningful to me.
5. Homeward Bound
Honestly, though, who doesn’t love this movie? Three cute animals, awesome voices, a crazy adventure all packed into one movie made especially for kids? I didn’t watch this one as frequently as the others, but this was always one of my favorites to bring to birthday parties or gatherings with kids my age. A very underrated Disney film in its own right, Homeward Bound was definitely one of my favorites.
