For many students going away to school can be hard for them since they are moving to a new place they aren't familiar with and they most likely don't know anyone. They have to make new friends and make a life for themselves, which is why it's important to make their living space feel like their new home. Here are 5 things that will make any dorm room more homey.

1. Kitchen Utensils

I learned very quickly after starting college that I didn't like the food options that were available at my school, so I cook quite often. It all depends on the person, but for me I can't eat microwave dinners all the time, so I needed the proper pots, pans, and utensils to cook food I actually enjoy eating on a regular basis.

2. Comfortable Bedding

We never really think about the things we sleep in, but sleeping in uncomfortable bedding can make or break a student's academic success, so when you see a stylish comforter you like at the store make sure it's comfortable for you before you buy it. Comfort is more important than style when it comes to your bed.

3. Comfortable Clothes

College is a lot different than high school when it come's to what students wear to class. In college students don't worry about how they look as much as they do in high school. When you wake up for your 8 am class the last thing you want to do is get all dressed up, so bring lots of leggings, sweats, and loose shirts for those days when the last thing you want to do is to get up and go to class.

4. Snacks

Bring along some of your favorite snacks to your new home because you're going to need extra energy on those late nights when your studying, or even on those days when your running late to class and you need something you can grab quick and eat on the way.

5. Things That Comfort You

I'd be lying if I said I never miss home when I'm away at school, but luckily I keep lots of things that remind me of home and comfort me when I need it. This can be different for everyone, but for me when I need comforting I look at photo albums, old birthday cards, and I still sleep with a stuffed animal I've had since I was 8 years old. There will come a time when you miss home, so bring some things that will comfort you when that time comes.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
