Senior year is a crazy time. Everything, and anything can happen over these two semesters. It’s stressful, it’s fun, it’s exciting, and it’s nerve-wracking. We have all learned so much both academically and personally. We’ve grown up since we were scared, eighteen year old freshmen. The past three years have surely been an emotional rollercoaster. This rollercoaster, however, is starting to slow down for us seniors.
Senior year is getting our resumes together, starting to look for jobs, applying for jobs, participating in internships, applying to grad schools, researching different kinds of opportunities, and much more. Senior year is spending as much time as we can with the friends we’ve made during our time at school. It’s stopping by professors’ offices to casually talk while we still have the chance to. We’re enjoying the campus that has become a home for us.
We’re thinking of our futures and getting ready for graduation.
As the first semester comes to a close, us seniors are halfway there and getting closer to graduation.
During this time, we’re going through a slew of emotions. It’s scary to realize that my undergrad career is slowing down and that graduation is just a few months away.
These are some of the roller-coaster emotions a senior may feel as senior year progresses:
1. Excited
After a long, fun summer break, it’s exciting to see all your friends that you weren’t able to see over the break. You get to see your favorite professors and head back to the campus you love so much.
2. Stressed
Between all the major projects and papers, on-campus jobs, schoolwork, and managing our relationships, it can all be stressful and frustrating.
3. Sad
It’s weird to think how you’ll soon be leaving the place you’ve lived in and called home for the past three years. How you won’t be able to just stop by and talk to your professors. That the friends you’ve made over the years won’t be just a room or dorm away.
4. Overwhelmed/Tired
Between all the projects, assignments, papers, and work, it can be extremely overwhelming. Getting grad school and job applications done can be tiring. By the time the busy day is over, you’re ready to go back to bed.
5. Accomplished
You worked real hard on that project. You spent hours working on a paper. In some majors, you may have been working on a project all semester. It is such a great feeling when you’ve finally handed it in. And in the end, all the time, work, and effort you put into your studies is going to be worth it at graduation.
The first semester of senior year is coming to a close. While this has been a crazy, stressful semester, it has also been one of the best during my time here. We’ve been through a lot over these past few years. While our undergrad careers are almost over, once graduation hits, we’ll be headed on to a totally new adventure as continue to grow.
