Spring is a wonderful time. The sun comes out, people are happier and, for sorority girls, spring means one thing: fraternity formals. Formals are a magical time to have a weekend getaway right before the stress of finals and bond with some pretty amazing people.
In return, many guys want those cool painted coolers that are all over Pinterest. For most girls, it was an excuse to craft. For me, it was a total nightmare. I am not crafty. Never have been and never will be. So when my boyfriend asked me to his formal, I dreaded making it. Finally, after much pestering from my other four best friends who were also going, I decided to start this journey.
Stage 1: Clueless
Do I get a red one? How big of a cooler do I really need? It takes how many weeks to make?! You have to sand it, prime it, stencil the designs, paint it, Mod Podge it, and then waterproof it? This was more intense than I thought…
Stage 2: Hope
Once I got the basics down, I am feeling good! My hand is as stead as a rock. I am in the zone. I CAN DO THIS! I CAN BE CRAFTY!!
Stage 3: Anger
I hate this. I hate this with a fiery passion. Whoever came up with this idea was a monster. Eight hours of working on this freaking cooler, and I only have ONE SIDE DONE! How am I going to do this?! THAT’S IT, HE IS NOT GETTING A COOLER.
Stage 4: Sadness
I have been working so hard on this and it looks awful. I’m a failure. I might as well just drop out of school now. The worst part of this is I don’t even get to keep it. I have to give it to a BOY!!
Stage 5: Contentment/Delusion/All Hope Lost
Alright, that is as good as its going to get. He loves me so he will love the cooler right? I mean, its not a big deal. It’s just a cooler. JUST. A. COOLER. These other girls' coolers are awesome and mine is pretty awesome too! It is what it is, and I can live with that.
When all is said and done, the cooler did turn out pretty awesome and we had a great time at formal. Cheers to actually being crafty, and cheers to never having to go through this again!
