The state of colorful Colorado has an abundant amount of unique things to do, places to see.... and FOOD TO EAT. From small ski towns to our towering buildings in Denver, you will find some of the best food and desserts that will leave you wanting more every time. In no particular order, these are five of my top favorite places to grub in the 5280.
1. The Buckhorn Exchange
This rustic, old Western restaurant was founded in 1893 where early Cowboys and Indians would stop in for a delicious meal. After putting one foot through the door, you will automatically be taken back to the Wild Wild West. The restaurant has liquor license Number One in the state of Colorado as well. The atmosphere is amazing and full of history but the food is even better. The menu holds 'out of your comfort zone' foods such as alligator, rattlesnake, and Rocky Mountain oysters! Some other scrumptious options include steak, bison, and seafood. Yeehaw!
2. Voodoo Doughnuts
You will never find doughnuts quite like the ones that are served at Voodoo. The doughnuts here are not your typical, "breakfast on the go," kind of doughnuts...they're dessert! The list of goes on from cereal topped doughnuts to bubble gum flavored (and even some vegan options). On the weekends, when Denver is at its busiest, the line will end up being all the way out the door and down the street just for one of these delicious doughnuts. If you're up for a challenge, you can ask for the Tex-Ass doughnut- which means you have to devour an entire 1 pound doughnut (which is equal to half a dozen) in 80 seconds!! Voodoo accepts cash only but has an ATM inside. Make sure you take a look at the menu before ordering otherwise you won't be able to decide!
3. Beau Jo's
Colorado is home to the phenomenal pizzeria, Beau Jo's. There are seven locations throughout the state, with my personal favorite being Idaho Springs. These pizza pies are huge...and I mean HUGE. After hitting the 'all you can eat' salad bar, you can dive right into the Legendary Mountain Pie. But wait... there's more! Smother your crust (which is thicker than the pizza) in honey!
4. Little Man Ice Cream
This ice cream parlor is nothing short of amazing. The building itself is a 28 foot tall cream can! From French toast to vegan chocolate salted Oreo flavored ice cream, Little Man has it all. I would highly recommend the "Ice Cream Sammies" because who doesn't love ice cream between two cookies? Little Man also serves shakes, banana splits, gelato, sundaes and more! Its outdoor seating area is always festive for the holidays, shaded with large umbrellas and even gets lit up at night.
5. Snooze
Breakfast and lunch are served in this cute, retro eatery which was founded in Denver! The 'OMG French Toast' will leave you saying just that. The French toast is stuffed and drizzled with caramel, toasted coconut and has strawberries on top. There are lighter options on the menu as well, and a large selection of eggs Benedict and sandwiches among many others! Yum!!
I could talk about food all day long! I'm so lucky to live in a state with such incredible places to eat!
