We all have bad days. Some days you may be prone to tripping, one week you and your best friend get into a fight, and some days you just feel a little more stressed than usual. On those bad days, or the days you feel extra stressed, it's easy to overthink things. As a current college student, whenever I'm having a bad day I tend to question everything - I doubt my major or I even wonder if my life will ever pull itself together! I know you've felt this way at least once in your life and it will most likely happen again - but do not fret! I'm here to give you some tips on how to plan a happy future full of smiles and memories. You can use the following list as a reminder of all the great things this world has to offer, or you can even make specific points personal goals. So...how can we plan a happy future?
Plan the trip of your dreams.
Europe, Niagara Falls, California - anywhere! Sit down and plan out when the best time would be to visit that place. Get a group of friends to join you and set aside money every month dedicated to your dream trip. Not only will this make you happy just thinking about it, but it will give you something to aim towards and once you achieve it there will be no greater feeling of satisfaction!
Make it a personal goal to see as many sunsets and sunrises as possible.
I live on Cape Cod and driving to the beach to see the sunset is absolutely breathtaking. It was even more fun waking up at 4 am to see the sun rise and wake up the world around you. You can catch up on sleep later in the day, just take advantage of the wonderful display of colors the sky has to offer while you can!
Make a list of all of the books you've always wanted to read.
Start purchasing or renting them one by one. Then, every night, read about 20 pages - or as much as you'd like! Not only will it feel good knowing you're accomplishing something that has been in the back of your mind for a while, but you'll feel yourself becoming more thoughtful and intelligent which will benefit you in the present and in the future.
Surround yourself with people that help you maintain a healthy balance between your spiritual, mental, and physical happiness.
It's true that over time you realize who is truly there for you and cares with their entire heart. Start taking notice to the little things now in order to keep those individuals close in future years!
Make it a goal to make others smile as much as possible!
Yes, this article is about how to plan a happy future for yourself, but in order to truly accomplish that you must encourage the happiness of others as well. As Mother Teresa taught, "Peace starts with a smile." So create peace. Smile often at others but don't forget to smile at yourself - inner peace is just as important as world peace.
Stay happy, my friends.
