5 Easy and Realistic New Year's Resolutions

Here we are, in the first month of 2016. Enough time has passed so that some of your resolutions seem to have fallen through. You were going to start a diet but every other day has turned into a "cheat day." Or maybe you were going to start going to the gym but you haven't run out of excuses for not going yet. Whatever the case, sometimes we set resolutions that are too involved. They require more from us than we were really willing to give, but they sounded good when someone asked us what our 2017 resolutions were. Resolutions don't have to be something grandiose and complex. Smaller goals can greatly improve your life as well! Here is a list of 5 easy and realistic resolutions that will improve your life in 2017!

1. Get Enough Sleep

Sleep plays a major role in our health, but is easily overlooked. Why yes Netflix, I do want to keep watching until 3 am when I have to get up at 7. That sounds like a great idea! When we don't get enough sleep, our bodies do not function properly and we feel terrible. So this year, focus on getting around 8 hours of sleep each night. Get in the routine of putting down electronics earlier, so that the quality of your sleep will be better. By doing so, you will feel more rested and healthier. And for this resolution, you don't even have to get out of bed!

2. Drink More Water

While this resolution may require slightly more effort, it's still pretty easy. If you are out to eat somewhere, instead of getting a soda just get water. Not only is it better for you, but you will save some money! What a bonus! It is recommended that we drink around 8 glasses of water each day to be properly hydrated. If you need help keeping track of your water intake there are numerous apps available that turn drinking water into fun games. Drinking more water is easy to do!

3. Floss

We all tell our dentists that we do it more than we actually do, so why not step it up and really floss? It's not hard! Flossing doesn't take very long and is super easy to do. Just the kind of resolution I am looking for. While the benefits of flossing have been debated, it can't hurt to do it more often. Your dentist will be proud. And your teeth will thank you for finally getting that popcorn kernel out from between them.

4. Make Your Bed

It was one of the most dreaded chores of our childhoods, but it doesn't have to be one in our adult lives. Making your bed each morning is actually a powerful habit that has been linked to success and an increase in happiness. And it hardly takes any time at all! Starting the day off by making your bed will put you in a better mindset and make you more likely to make better decisions for the rest of the day. So why not make a simple resolution that could have a profound effect on your year? Just make your bed!

5. Wash Your Face

We all convince ourselves that the 5 second rinse of our face in the shower is enough, but no! We deserve to give our face better attention than that! A proper face wash each day will make you feel refreshed and calmed. Not to mention it will help clear up acne and improve your skin. While it may take more effort than some of these resolutions, it still isn't hard or time consuming! Just take your favorite cleanser and get to work!

These resolutions are just some of the simple ways that you can improve your 2017 without spending money on gym memberships or fancy diets! Take care of yourself this year! Set yourself up for success! 2017 is the year for you!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
