Inside Out:
"Alright we did not die today! I'd call that an unqualified success." -Fear
Some days nothing goes right, and then you go left and nothing goes right there either. Sometimes you feel Inside Out and upside down, but its okay to be an emotional roller coaster because at the end of the day, that's college. Some days you're disgusted with how much homework you have, other days you fear you will flunk out, some days you are so angry you scream, other days are filled with tears of stress, but then you have good days that are filled with Joy and contentment. College is a place where anger, fear, disgust, sadness, and joy seem to thrive, and usually pop into your life at random times resulting in several daily mental breakdowns. While the movie Inside Out is comical, in the not even one semester that I have been a college student, Inside Out is a depiction of my life on a daily basis. However, no matter how rough things get, a little joy goes a long way.
Monster's Inc:
"I may act scary but most of the time, I'm terrified." - Unknown
Monsters are scary creatures, especially in college. While these monsters may not be under your bed or in your closet they are somehow worse, believe it or not. These monsters determine our future and how successful we are, and are called GPA’s. While I haven't been around college much to build one up, or tear it down, they sound pretty awful, much like Randell on Monster’s Inc. If I have learned a valuable lesson thus far, its to go with the flow and if possible beat up your monsters when they place doubt in your path. College has many monsters sadly, such as, procrastination, no sleep, papers, and coffee, while at first these seem inviting and no big deal, slowly these monsters show their true colors, but sometimes well, you just have to stop them dead in their tracks.
Finding Nemo:
"Just Keep Swimming" -Dory
In College, there is no such thing as "caught up" or "ahead of schedule." Mainly because a schedule is non-existent and procrastination becomes your middle name. But of course college students, much like any student for that matter, can relate to Finding Nemo. No matter how hard the journey got, Marlin and Dory never stopped looking for Nemo, even when the end was no where in sight. The thought of giving up was not an option, and was never considered because the reward was so grand. So when classes become your job and the library becomes your home, “just keep swimming,” because there are only three weeks until Thanksgiving break, and then we are one step closer to that diploma that faintly seems only a dream.
The Good Dinosaur:
"Listen Kid, you can't get rid of fear. Its just like mother nature, you can't beat her or outrun her. But you can get through it. You can find out what you're made of." -T-Rex
The Good Dinosaur is a movie about a Dinosaur that is lost away from home but travels this journey that helps him find himself. College is a time where our journey is bumpy and will often times lead us to fall and stumble along the way. But, don't fear. We have God on our side. We, much like the Good Dinosaur are at the beginning of a long path to finding ourselves and who we really are. Sometimes we are going to lose the way and maybe even our heads, but we will somehow learn the ropes, even if it means we have to do a little thinking.
Frozen:
"Some people are worth melting for." -Olaf
Sometimes we all need to “Let it go.” College is a time when you realize that straight A’s probably aren't going to happen, all food is good, and friends are everything. Frozen is a movie that not only is about finding true love, but is also one that is all about friendship. College is all about finding lifelong friends who will stick by you like Kristof and Sven. College is about finding that person who you can go to when a phone call to your mom isn't going to make you feel better, someone who knows how to give warm hugs like Olaf. This is a time in our lives when we “let it go,” and hope our best is good enough. Find a friend who would give up the world for you. Find your Elsa or Anna.
