“I’m not mad, just disappointed”. These words have to be the worst thing a parent can say. Luckily, this article isn’t about finding new ways to hear this phrase, but is about TV series which make you feel this way. Everyone has watched a TV series that was just underwhelming. Most of these shows are very popular, and not everyone feels just “meh” about them, but they certainly struggle to live up to their hype.
Breaking Bad
The premise of this show is very intriguing. A high school chemistry teacher is diagnosed with cancer, he begins making crystal meth in order to fund his treatment. The show has been credited as maybe the greatest TV series ever, and can be found on every list of greatest TV series. This show, like many on the list, never had the chance to live up to its expectations. The first two seasons are absolutely painful, the show is very slow and drags on, while the main source of drama and conflict (Walter not telling his family he cooks meth) could easily be solved by Walter just divulging the truth. A great TV show shouldn’t feel like it is work to get through, and this one does.
Prison Break
Prison Break is a highly regarded show, and at the beginning, it’s for a good reason. The show, unfortunately, takes a turn for the worse. After breaking out of prison the first time (spoiler alert) the characters continually find themselves in prison in need of escape. The plot becomes incredibly redundant and the show quickly loses its luster.
Game of Thrones
Like Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones is crippled by its own hype. Everyone who watches this show and their brother absolutely raves about it. They all say the same thing too, there’s a lot of action, killing, nudity, fantasy, blah, blah, blah. The show is decent, but never has a chance to be as good as everyone claims. The show is slow, sometimes painfully so. The seasons seem to just drag on, and eventually come to some pretty predictable “climax”. Plus, there is a lot of fantasy in this show, which could be a big detractor to some.
Orange is the New Black
Originality certainly is not an issue with Orange is the New Black, as there really is nothing quite like this. But, there are some aspects that take away from the show. For one, character development is pretty slow, and you don’t really know the characters until the end of season 1. These characters are often pretty inconsistent. For example, Piper flip flops between loving her husband and being a lesbian many times. The show can also be hard to follow at times, as there are so many sub plots to keep up with. Ultimately, the show just loses its draw the more you watch it.
Lost
Again another show that starts off strong and just fades quickly. As the show goes on, the plot becomes weirder and weirder. What starts off as a normal TV show quickly turns into a full-fledged fantasy. The ending of this show can be described as a cop out in the worst way. It certainly has to be one of the worst endings of all time. I don’t want to ruin it for anyone that’s currently watching it, but for everyone who is curious you should definitely look this one up.
