Through my favorite YouTubers and Apple Music, I've comprised a list of some of debut albums that you should give a listen to.
1. Fletcher
Her debut album, Finding Fletcher, is an album you can listen to in any mood. She was named one of Spotify's Spotlight Acts in 2016 after earning 40M+ streams, and has received high praise from other magazines and blogs. While it only has 6 songs on it, each one is just as impressive as the last. You can hear the sophistication in her music. It is complete with excellent melodies and such a pure singer-songwriter voice. She's come along way from her audition on XFactor at just 17 years oId. If you're unsure about listening to the whole album, I would definitely recommend checking out "Princess", "Wasted Youth", and "War Paint".
2. 6LACK
I stumbled across 6LACK completely on accident. I wanted something new that I didn't have in my library already. On top of that, I had just purchased Apple Music and wanted to see what it was all about. His song "PRBLMS" was the first of his debut album, FREE 6LACK, that I listened to. After "PRBLMS" I was hooked. The rest of his album is an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least. So if you need to focus or just want to get in your feelings, go on YouTube or Apple Music, if you have it, and check out his debut album.
3. Khalid
This one should be expected. I'm sure you've heard his hit single, "Location", multiple times on the radio. His music is so mature and so soulful, and still manages to shatter the expectations that one would have for the Contemporary R&B music genre. His music covers it all from evaluating the difference between being a proud American and being proud of its current state to reliving some of the worst memories of his life. His debut album, American Teen, is without a doubt a must listen to for this Summer season.
4. Jidenna
The Classic Man finally released his first studio album and it did not disappoint. While, the decision to try out so many different music styles on this album received mix reviews, for me it was perfect. His choice to keep switching up, kept me on my toes and allowed me to listen to it in different moods. Jidenna seems as though he has really established his specific sound but the album does a great job in showcasing his many musical talents. His debut album, The Chief, definitely has some sharp and very relevant moments. So, if you have a spare moment, take the time and check it out.
5. The Chainsmokers
Just to round out the list, I threw The Chainsmokers on here. The music isn't for all but, nonetheless, it is still pretty good. Their debut album, Memories...Do Not Open, is a bit of a change-up from their usual EDM sound, however, the music is still good. From their hit-single, "#SELFIE", which was upbeat and more suited for the EDM genre, their new album is more pop and a bit more somber. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. I'm sure you've heard the song, "Something Just Like This", many times on the radio. The following songs have the same vibe, so if you're in more of a somber mood, this is the album for you.
