5 Day-To-Day Experiences With Your College Family
Haylee Patterson

1. Every day is a new adventure

Waking up is a fresh start. Yesterday may have been bad, but today is new and anything could happen. You could be discovering that Cumberland Farms has really good slushies, or just jamming out in the car while probably speeding to McDonald's to get some McNuggets. Nothing is every dull when we're all together and plan to do crazy outings or dress up as the seven dwarfs for Halloween, or have a specific time for the dining hall every night. No matter what, it will always be a grand adventure.

2. Everyone tend to go to gatherings/new places together.

When there is a group meeting or floor program, it's either all or not going at all. If one doesn't go, then we all don't. It's like a cult ,(but not- maybe). If there is a big, mandatory school meeting, everyone sits together and under no circumstances does one have to sit by themselves. If there is a sports game going on, everyone is asked before going. If one goes to get food, the whole car is full or everyone is asked to go. Dinner, oh boy- dinner, it's the whole gang down in the dining center taking up the biggest table they can get. One does not fend for themselves without asking the whole group to join.

3. There may be a fight or two.

Okay, living with all girls, everyone tends to get on edge. There is some hard and heavy tension and there are some fights and silences on a daily basis. Living and being surrounded by each other every day at all hours can get into our nerves and make some days tense. There aren't fists swinging or body slamming, but words spoken behind each others backs and yelling. They are normal fights about the silliest things. Living with each other day after day after day can get tiresome and we take our anger out on the wrong people. In the end, they get resolved and unfortunately later, the cycle repeats.

4. We always make up for things with excessive amounts of love.

I love you. I love you, and I love you. Everyone expresses their love in different forms, but the phrase 'I love you' is said aloud almost 20 times a day. Our college family, our family away from our real blood family is who we go to on our roughest days. They're the ones we go to when we have boy troubles, the ones we drag to sports games, the ones we persuade to go with us to do something weird. Love is persistent and always exists between the family members and I know if I ever need anything, they are there to hold me up at my weakest, or to help me at my lowest. They are there, they are my family, I have grown to love all weird sides of them.

5. Dance parties occur nightly.

Or something like a dance party. Busting jams at ten at night, getting some Beyonce on, or some Nicki Minaj, maybe even Rhi Rhi. The jams are turned all the way up on either one of our speakers or the TV in the lounge and people are getting up to bust some moves, or to do the "Mean Girls" dance. The party doesn't start until later that evening, but when it does Snapchat comes out to video record it all. We dance on top of tables, the coffee tables, or roll around on the floor and have a blast. It's what we do is have a good time, and it's always lit.

It wouldn't be the same experience with you guys, thanks college fam; much love.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
