I don't know about you guys, but I'm excited that it's October. For me, it means Pumpkin Spice as an option for my coffee, fall weather, and Halloween fast approaching. I love a good scary story. Horror is one of my favorite genres, and I like a story with thought and the potential for chills.
I frequent numerous subreddits at times, such as r/nosleep and r/threekings. I've been a reader of creepypasta for a while as well. So what follows are five "creepypastas" that I highly recommend to anyone interested in the genre.
For those of you who do not know, creepypasta is type of horror short story which surfaces on the internet and it loosely associated to copy/paste type works. Some stories are written to sound true, and some are just so bizarre that they can't be true. Now, let's begin.
One of my favorites; this four part creepypasta centers around the writer finding a computer tower behind the water heater of a friend's condo. While inspecting it and looking through the files, he sees video files and logs from the owner, a woman who takes up being a cam girl as a means of making money. Through viewing the transcripts, he reads the requests of preliminary clients and records of the girl's sessions before things begin to take a dark turn. It's a four part story with NSFW content, but it is well written and worth the read.
2. Barbie.avi
Much like "Memoirs of a Cam Girl," the story begins with the author finding a computer. He finds it within a dumpster and decides to clean it up and potentially use it for parts. Whilst searching through files, he stumbles across a file titled "Barbie.avi." The file is an hour long video clip of a woman being interviewed in a house not far from the author's residence. Upon watching the video, he sees the woman become increasingly upset. He goes to investigate, and what he finds is disturbing. At this point, I should mention the video is actually viewable on YouTube. Search "Barbie.avi" you can find parts one, two, and four.
3) BEN Drowned
Do you have a favorite video game you just love to play for the sake of nostalgia? For me, it's Pokemon, but for the author of this story, it was "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask." In the story, the author is starting his freshman year of college. Sporting a garage sale, he sees a copy of the Zelda game and buys it off an old man. He boots it up later to find a file titled "BEN" and decides to play it. Soon, weird things begin to happen both in the game and in real life.
4) 630-296-7536
Calling this number leads you to "Boothworld Industries," where you can schedule a remodel, or perhaps find out when YOU are scheduled for remodel.
5) 1999
Hands down my favorite creepypasta. The author of this story takes us on a journey that harkens back to the days of his youth in 1999. Where he gets his own TV, he discovers the chancel "Caldon local 22," a chancel with a weird kid's program that seems to be filmed by one man. I know my description of the story is short, but this is one of those tales that speaks for itself. If you don't want to take the time to read it, then I suggest you give it a listen on YouTube .
