In light of carnival season, here is a list of things you've experienced during this crazy time in NOLA! I know, as a New Orleans native, how crazy the season can get. First time Mardi Gras partiers can be especially wild. So, here are some things you have probably seen during Mardi Gras.
1. The crowds of Endymion.
Endymion is one of the biggest and most popular parades. The parade starts at 4:15 p.m. and people will already be on the parade route at 7 a.m. that morning. That's how huge this parade is. Every year there is a celebrity guest. Last year Luke Bryan was the guest. This parade has the coolest throws and the floats are beyond gorgeous. It's really a must see parade!
2. Bourbon Street.
Bourbon Street is crazy year round, but during Mardi Gras, it's extra crazy. If you've been down there, you know how it gets. People on Burbon Street are in another world. When it comes time to close Bourbon Street, it's an amazing thing to watch. The police chiefs and mayor ride down the street on horses and other officers walk down the street behind them. It's another parade in intself.
3. Fighting for throws.
We all know how it gets when you catch a $1.00 pair of beads at a parade. It seems like they're pair of diamonds in the sky (see what I did there). Tourist think beads are rare jewels. Little do they know you can buy them in bulk at the dollar store.
4. Perlis shirt, black leggings, brown boots and feather headband.
This is the typical uniform for girls during Mardi Gras, including me. Mardi Gras is my favorite time of the year because I finally have a reason to wear my Perlis Mardi Gras shirt! It has become trendy within the past couple of years.
5. Rain or shine, the parade goes on.
Of course, Louisiana weather is nuts. It's always humid and nasty. But the weather doesn't stop the party! I couldn't tell you how many times my friends and I got soaking wet while enjoying the New Orleans celebrations
If you're looking to come to my crazy city for carnival season, these are some things that you will see. Be aware of the crazies! They are everywhere, not just on Bourbon Street. Happy parading and laissez les bons temps rouler!
