Everyone knows great, classic groups from the 70s and 80s like Queen, AC DC, Guns ‘n’ Roses, etc. I myself have loved classic 70s and 80s rock since I was a little kid thanks to the early exposure from my parents and family friends who also share my love the genre. Here are the five songs that I think will last forever in the music industry.
1) Bohemian Rhapsody- Queen
Ok, let me start off by saying this, Freddie Mercury is a musical genius who died long before his time. Everyone I know knows this song by heart, and it is impossible not to sing along when this song comes on Pandora, Spotify, the radio or your playlist on YouTube (well for me at least). I give people credit for trying to sing this song and hit the high notes, but I’m sorry no one can sing this song like Freddie Mercury can; it doesn’t sound right when anyone else sings it.
2) Sweet Home Alabama- Lynyrd Skynyrd
The intro for this song is so recognizable that everyone starts to play air guitar along with the intro (oh wait, that may be just me). This song is quite an ear-worm and it is so catchy that everyone just starts singing along. It is so recognizable that some of the words to Sweet Home Alabama have made it into songs by other artists. This song has become a steeple for the Alabama Crimson Tide football team.
3) Sweet Child O’ Mine- Guns ‘n’ Roses
Ok, so this song has been featured in the movie Step Brothers (which is a great movie by the way). No one can outplay Slash on the guitar, and no one can beat Axl Rose’s slightly screechy voice when he sings this song. This song has personally snuck it’s way back into my heart, and it is a must play for all dance parties that my go on with my friends and family.
4) Hells Bells- AC DC
The deep ringing of bells that sounds like they can come from a church at the beginning of the song distinguish it from the rest of the popular songs from AC DC. I have listened to this song since I was seven or eight, and I can honestly say that this song is the best song that AC DC has ever written. It is five minutes of pure head banging awesomeness that make many people sing along and have little dance parties in their room when no one is watching.
5) Welcome to the Jungle- Guns N’ Roses
Ok, yes, another song by Guns N’ Roses, but this song’s a lot more well-known than "Sweet Child O’ Mine." Many North American sports teams use "Welcome to the Jungle" as an entrance song for their home team. Many start to sing along and play air guitar when they hear the intro, Axl Rose’s screechy voice, and the skills of Slash on the guitar. I tend to think I am as good as Slash is on the air guitar.
These songs are not only some of my all time favorites, but I also think that they are the most recognized by each group. They have the most airplay and songs that everyone knows from our parents down to our youngest siblings. The music on the radio does not compare to these classics. I grew up on 70s and 80s music because of my parents and these songs will always have a special place in my heart.
