I might be the only person in the world who hates Christmas Music. "Jingle Bell Rock," "Baby It's Cold Outside," even "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" all make me cringe. I dread the turning point every year where radios begin playing nonstop Christmas music. Because of this, everyone thinks I'm Scrooge! But I'm not. So over the past couple of years I've compiled a playlist of Christmas music I can stand to listen to, so I can still participate in the festivities.
1. Mary, Did You Know? - The Pentatonix
"Mary, Did You Know?" is actually one of the only real Christmas songs I can stand. When I found the Pentatonix's version, I almost died. In case you aren't familiar with the Pentatonix, they're an an acapella group so anything you hear at any given time is coming from their voices.
2. Any other Pentatonix Christmas song
Okay, so "Mary, Did You Know?" is my favorite but 95% of my Christmas music playlist consists of Pentatonix songs because they're THAT good. Here's their Christmas playlist. And on iTunes: "A Pentatonix Christmas", "That's Christmas to Me", "PTXmas"
3. Shake Up Christmas- Train
Maybe I'm biased because I'm literally in love with Train (I see them every time they visit my area and for the record, they're some of the best concerts I've attended) but this song is definitely unique for Christmas. It has that "early 2000" pop rock sound reminiscent somewhat of one of Train's first hits "Calling All Angels" and it's honestly just really cutesy and feel good. You'll want to jump on your bed and scream the lyrics.
4. Kiss Me Babe, It's Christmas Time- Owl City
From the partially forgotten creator of "Fireflies" ( a song that I'm sure everyone remembers from 2009), this song is also unique from something you'd expect to hear as Christmas music. It still gives you that warm cozy feeling of Christmas music, I promise.
5. This Is My Wish- Kevin Ross
Weirdly enough, I found this song on a Glade commercial two years ago and I spent a few weeks with the tune stuck in my head before I could finally remember the song enough to find it and download it. It's going to get stuck in your head and inspire you to bring peace to the world.
And with that, now that Thanksgiving is officially over...let the Christmas festivities begin.
