5 Changes We Want To See At Concordia

Starting the semester is always exciting; the new textbooks, the freshly sharpened pencils, and the blank pages waiting to be written on. As we get ready for the beginning of the semester and attempt to settle into the groove of a new school year, there are some things that we would like to see differently. Concordia is a great school, with great professors and faculty, and an even greater atmosphere. With that being said, nothing is perfect and there are some changes we want to see at school this year. Here are five changes we want to see at Concordia this semester:

1. More parking spaces.

As a commuter, the hardest part of going to school is finding parking. It seems that no matter what time of the day you go, the parking lot is always full. When the weather conditions change and become harsh, it is nearly impossible to find a good spot. Finding parking is always a challenge for students and it makes their commute that much more stressful. One change that is definitely necessary is more parking options, at least for the sanity of the commuting students.

2. A wider variety of food options.

While the changes the Brickyard made were a success, the commons are still in need of some improvement. Perhaps a wider variety of food is what the commons needs.

3. More availability at the writing center.

Many students find the writing center to be an extremely useful tool when it comes to writing papers. The tutors really help students get a better understanding of the work they couldn't comprehend in class. However, when the end of the semester arrives, it is almost impossible to get an appointment when you need it most. So perhaps more availability is the answer we have been looking for.

4. Longer hours in the New Media Lab.

One of the constant struggles for students is trying to finish New Media projects within the limited number of hours to edit them. One solution would be more availability in the new media lab.

5. Longer library hours on the weekend.

The best thing about the library, is being able to get lost in the books and really get into a good study session. Having longer library hours could help extend those really good study sessions.

Change is good for the soul, or so they say. So let's make this school year a good one and make some change!

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

singing
Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
